Rookie Mistake GRRRRR!

I just finished a casting session of 4 calibers and 3 are fine but I found a problem with the 9mm's...Rookie mistake evidently. I found it during sizing. Many of them were not going through the sizer. Had to beat a couple out...not good!

Anyhow I did a check on the diameter at the beginning of my session to be sure they were dropping the right size and i didn't check on it again, bad mistake as it turns out! There out of round!
These are the same bullet.

Man if only I would have held up My mold and checked the daylight every now and then I wouldn't have to redo the whole batch (about 1600)! Good news is the molds are fine. Got the gunk out of the alignment pin on the far side of the mold and it is closing all the way now.

Normally, I'd tell a new caster that there ain't many "real" mistakes unless you burn yourself, just "practice runs". But 1,600? Yep, that's a mistake...:D

An extensive failure rate examination.

It must have worked. You did learn something.

It will be all right, the lead needed the alloy corrected anyway.

OSOK

It is good you found it yourself and now learn from it.After you will know what to watch for and go from there, also it dose happend to the best of us one time or another also. One thing about casting you can re use it again and not out of anything.too bad you got that many done but we all learn some way.Do not give up and just learn and go from there.

I read this off my phone while I was up at the farm and simply laughed a good one. Don't sweat the small stuff ##it happens to us all. My last one was grabbing up my mold for my 41 and then setting the 45 mold up on the hot plate and pouring up a 10# batch of them. Thing is I already had about 25# worth poured up. They didn't run through my .411 sizer at ALL. LOL

I don't know what got into my train of thought but it happens. You get on a roll and things seem to be going so smooth, then all of a sudden "what tha..."

The good things is however not being like jacketed, they can be redone in MUCH better form, even after you load and shoot them.

I can picture it now...lol.

Well I DO have internet access up there, but it is like two cups and a string trying to do anything on the net. It DOES work but nothing like what i have at work or here at home. The phone will suffice for small things, but between it's spell checking and my typing in the first place, we don't get along very well...
