Romanian Tokarev Safety

Well howdy yall.

I have been wanting to get one of the recent Romanian Tokarev TTC pistols out now. They are going for fine (low) prices and they look like a hoot. But, I have read theh all had to be imported with a weird safety located below the slide stop.

Is that a deal killer? Just how bad are the lawyer inspired tacked on safetys that comr on Romanian Tokarevs? They are a huge eyesore, but will they affect function or reliability? Should I save my money for another unmolested Bulgarian Makarov?

Thanks for the help all!

I'd probably research how to remove it. Tokarev's never had safeties. Had a Chinese Tokarev that the previous owner removed the safety from altogether.

I have a Polish and a Romanian both have the safety. I looked into plugging it as well but decided to leave it. The results I have seen from people doing it are not much better then the safety there. I have had zero issues with the safety so I decided to leave it there.

I tried a romanian TTC and and while the gun was made fairly well, the bore was a bit pitted and it had horrible accuracy.

If you're dead set on getting a Tok with a usable safety get a Yugo Tok. They were designed with the safety and it is usable.

The M57 Tokarevs are cool, but they don't have the same look or take the same magazines as the traditional Tokarevs since they are made to take a nine-round magazine.

My TTC was fun and accurate. It was reliable, even with the after-thought safety. It was my first woods carry pistol.

I didn't remove mine as it didn't affect function, just recognize that it's a trigger safety, not a modern safety designed to stop internal part (read: firing pin) movement.

I have a polish radom. I should have gotten a Romanian as mine had quite a bit of small problems. Had to work on it to make it shoot right.

It came with a safety near the magazine release button. My right thumb may change its position inadvertently, though it has never happened yet. I have thought of removing it and plugging the holes. I ended up leaving it alone. I am not carrying it, so why bother?

The pistol was designed to be carried empty chambered or in half cock. The latter is not the safest proposition. The added safety doesn't do much to make it safer.
