Romanian SR-1 prices and suppliers.

I'm interested in a SR-1. I did a search for pertinent threads on TFL and I found plenty of good info, including suppliers (AIM, Wholesale Guns & Ammo) who recently had this piece in the $250-300 range.

However, I guess that I am a Johnny-come-lately:( and these suppliers seem to be out of SR-1. Century Arms doesn't seem to sell retail, or do they? At my favorite gun shop I am being quoted a price close to $400 and with tax that makes it about $420. I looked up the usual suspects on GunsAmerica and there $380 seems to be the ballpark for the low quotes on this gun.

Anyway, assuming that I have a FFL who will order it for me from Century Arms (or elsewhere: I don't care...), what would be a fair price for a new SR-1 at this point in time (22 October)?

FWIH, century has a shipment of SAR-1's coming in soon. I've also heard they're going to be raising their prices, but to what price I don't know.
They were selling at aim for about $270. $400 is 'gun show' pricing. Since september 11th it's seems everyone has either run out or jacked up their prices to higher levels. At $400 you're near bulgarian prices, which are reported to be much better fit & finish.

I'd either wait until century gets a new batch in, or try to get a sar-2 (ak-74 clone) from aim for $259. Or if you're prepared to pay $400, spend the extra on a bulgarian or polish AK.
 
Thanks for the tips and info Bastiat. Much appreciated. Actually, the quality/price ratio is very interesting at the $270-300 level, but at $400 I'm losing interest very fast :)

I was interested in the 7.62 caliber primarily, although I might look at the SR-2 if push comes to shove. Century does have SR1's advertised presently on their web site, but no prices quoted.

I'll check with a local FFL to see if I can work out something out as far as ordering from Century.

www.jgsales.com recently posted that they will be receiving SAR1's sometime in Nov. You can pre-buy if you can't find anything else. I think they're going for $300 or so.
