Romanian SKS in .223 and PMP ammo

I got weak at the local gun show in Hilliard this weekend, and bought a Romainian SKS in .223. As long as I was going crazy, I just went ahead and picked up 1000 of the PMP .223 55 grain rounds while I was there.

I am now wondering what the twist rate of the rifling on this barrel. Anyone have any information about this gun? I bought it for plinking and playing, and the fact that it uses the .223 (have a bushmaster on order) is a big plus.

Anyone with information/opinions about this gun or this ammo, please let me know.

Thanks.

A SKS in .223. WOW! Did the seller have any more, and if he did, pass me the info of his shop and how much are each. Did the seller make this SKS? Or did he have someone make it for him? Do you have a photo of the SKS, I would really like to see it.

You've peaked my interest. I've never heard of an SKS in .223. More information please! Is it rebarreled? Does it feed properly? How much was it? How does it shoot? Where can I get one?!!

It is with great embaressment that I show my ignorance of eastern bloc weapons. I was at the gun show, and both the person I was with and the person selling called the carbine a "Romanian SKS". After getting it home and cleaning it, I started to do research and realized that what I have is a Romanian SAR 3, in .223.

Once again, I am obviously in great need of some practical information about this weapon. I have purchased the PMP ammo, and am wondering about how well it will work with the SAR 3.

Sorry about piquing anyones interest with my own ignorance. I have never even felt any interest in these style of weapons, but after holding it, it appears to be a very neat, compact design. I am sure that millons of others who have one will be glad that I agree.

Thanks.

Casy,

PMP (Pretoria Metal Pressing) is a South African company that has been manufacturing ammunition for many years, and I have personally used their products for the past 20 years or so. They manufacture handgun, rifle and shotgun ammo, and in my opinion it's certainly fine for your intended use.

Thanks everyone! I have been doing research (as I haven't been able to get out to the range yet) and overall, I think both the SAR-3 and the PMP ammo were good buys.

I only paid $75 for the 1000 rounds of .223, and bet I will wish that I had picked up more. A friend has fired them in his AR clone, and says that they are pretty good.

Well, it is cleaned up, oiled and waiting for a chance to shoot tonight and this weekend. I don't have the Weiger magazines that I ordered yet, but I bet it will still be fun.
