Romanian .22 Military Training Rifles

Fellow Shooters,

At my local gun shop I was looking at some Romanian .22 LR Military Trainer bolt action rifles and decided to put some money down one one. I get to pick it up this friday when I get paid! :D

For $65.00 it sounded like too good of a deal to pass up for a first rifle for my daughter. The wood could use some refinishing but is perfectly suitable as is for a general field .22. The barrel is extremely clean as well as the action with a manufacture date of 1985 on the reciever. It is grooved for the standard .22 scopemounts.

Anyone here have any experiences with this rifle?

Good shooting

I've enjoyed mine quite a bit. It's quite accurate and reliable. It's also great for teaching people to shoot--the only problem being that the stock is a little long for small people. I have heard of some problems by posters on the net, but almost anything that might go wrong with this gun is simple and inexpensive to fix. I recommend it highly.

I love mine. It shoots like a dream. One of the better bargains out there for starter rifles in my opinion.

And the comment about possible ejection problems is on target. You'll have to keep an eye on that at the start.

Ditto what everyone else said. Mine fits my 12-yr old nicely. Accuracy is great. Have not put a scope on it, but it shoots very well with iron sights. Had the trouble with the ejector/firing pin, but an easy fix (thanks to TFL). Even with that trouble, a great value.

guess what followed me home from the gun show today...

i am not having any luck mounting a set of weaver 22 rings on the reciever
it does not appear to be cut for US style rings
i had a 4x weaver already on 22 mounts so i gave it a test fit

mine has a 1985 arsenal stamp on it too.
in the butt stock was a brand new cleaning kit

very nice, low cost rifle

clp is soaking out the varnished lube tonight

If you read this and had the ejector problem, can't you tell us how you fixed it so we don't have to run a special search that may return 349 hits?

I have 4 of 'em

About scope mounting for a romanian .22

I just took two of them to the range. The other two are in the process of being refinished.

The problems I experienced with the rifles:
1 magazine had a problem feeding the last 2 rounds. Other magazine fed fine. Both were original mags (not the taiwan versions)
1 rifle had a problem locking the bolt into place. Part of the trigger was too long. Smoothed it out a bit, but I also smoothed out a part of the bolt a little too much. Now the trigger won't work (oops). At least it's the worst of the four (rusted sites and really bad wood). Teach yourself gunsmithing, the hard way.:D

Shooting wise, they were great. My first time with a rifle, but I was able to do pretty good groups. The best thing is they fed and shot my cheap federal lightning's perfectly.

If they have a selection, go for the ones made in the 1970's. They seem to have the best wood, and are a little easier to take apart.

i got the 4x weaver mounted on the 22 with my weaver see thru mounts

i will get a picture up soon

I just bought one today, probably the same show and vendor as dz. Good info on this thread. I'll post some results as soon as I take it to the range. Mine appears to be in excellent condition. Just a touch of rust on the buttplate.

They sure seem to be great little guns and good shooters. Now if anyone just had ideas on fixing the skanky trigger pull. I got mine to the point I can live with but its still not the best pull.

Best $50 I've ever spent. :) Mine works great. Trigger is creepy, but not bad. Accuracy is good. For the money I don't think you can go wrong.

A group of us ordered 12 of these earlier this year. Out of the 12 there were three with problems. One broken firing pin, one bolt that was an obvious reweld (but it works fine), and one with a broken safety. A couple of those little guns looked brand spanking new and goregous. We drew lots to divide them up, I got a good shooter, but ugly. :)

The ones with problems were all fixed easily enough.

They are great rifles. I love mine.

To fix the possible ejector problems, drive out the pin holding the ejector/firing pin and remove it. Polish the ejector with a dremel or other suitable tool. Clean, lightly lube and replace.

That fixed mine when it started getting sticky. No problems since then.

I got some nice Romanian ones from www.gunsnammo.com
$12ea IIRC.

Not sure they still have them. That was a while ago, and they don't have any of the rifles in any more. But worth a call or an e-mail to find out.

I bought 3 of them for 45 a piece. For the money ,it's hard to beat. My teenage boys have got to where thats all they ever shoot anymore when they are trying to outshoot each other.

They are very straight shooters and the triggers arent bad either.

has anyone tried any other single stack mags in the 1969s?

they seem pretty simple in design

theres gotta be a marlin or savage or colt magazine that feeds with simple modifications

i got 2 new taiwan mags for 15 each at the MC show
