Romak III scope mount

the Romanian "dragunov"(dont' correct me, i know what it is, a glorified rpk) comes with russian optics, however they all seem to be offset to the left side of the reciever. since i shoot form the left shoulder this would make me have to bend my neck at an odd angle to shoot it properly, and i was wondering if a standard ak scope mount would fit the rail on this gun. If so it would be centered over the bore and i could use a regular american scope. do any of you know if the scope mounting rails are identical on the ak and romak III rifles(7.62x54)? also, does anyone have any comments, good or bad on these weapons?

I'm not positive, but I believe the AK type mounts will fit your Romak. Go to AK-47.net, visit the Romanian forum, do a search and you'll get the info. That questions gets asked now and then.

There is a guy there called Tantal. He imports Russian optics and mounts. If memory serves, he's got the quick-release side mount with Weaver rings (1") , which centers the scope over the gun, for $42??

Check it out.

Hey man - you ain't got that Romak yet??!? ;)

I'm a lefty. I find the scope being set a little to the left makes it easier to get a good cheek-weld on the Romak, which is essential for follow-up shots. You might want to invest in a cheek-piece for it though. You need to raise your head to get a good sight into the scope.

I'll probably be ordering it soon. I saw a bunch at a local gunshow and noticed the offset scope mounting, that made me pause for a week. I think i'll get one anyways and if i can't use the scope, i'll buy that scope mount that was mentioned on this board and put a different scope on it. Thanks for the advice.
