Rolling Block Pistol

I watched part of an old movie today on TCM. To my surprise I saw an original Remington Rolling Block pistol ! They came out originally as a military pistols ,Navy and Army versions ,in .50 caliber ! That was obvious as they showed it being loaded. Original ballistics were 300 gr @ 600 fps.
The BG used a display of two pistols as a booby trap to bump off a few people .I don't remember seeing those pistols in any other movie.
I do have one of the last made , a 22 target .Most of the military ones were converted to other cartridges especially 22.

I knew they existed; I've never, however, seen one. Considering the number of one-shooters on the market, it seems odd no one's updated the idea and announced it as the latest and greatest thing.

I've got the Navy Arms model in .22LR, made by Uberti. About 30 years old, I believe. Uberti hasn't produced the rolling block in about 15 years. Their website is old and out of date.

Remingtons first rolling block pistol was the 1865 Navy in .50 rimfire No real idea how many made, numbers run from 1,000 to 6,500, it had a 8 1/2 inch barrel and spur trigger. They made both military and civilian model. Then the 1867 navy in several variations(military, civilian, British contract) Quantity made unknown. The 1871 Army was also both civilian and military at around 6,000 produced. Then then made the 1891 target model in 22 rimfire, 25 stevens, 32 S&W rimfire and 32 S&W centerfire. The final rolling block pistol from Rem. was the 1901 target with only 735 made it was chambered in 22 short, 25-10 rimfire, or 44S&W. I hope someday to have at least an example of each type But after a 32 year search I still only have 2. The hunt is still on.
