fitting the conversion cyl/Rogers & Spencer
Smokingun:
Thanks for the thaughts on the loading lever lock-up. Now as far as my R&D "dropping in" ...Yep it dropped right in, after about 4 hours of polishing with a stone, the frame (under the cyl in front) the most time consuming polishing was the breech end of the barrel, I had to remove nearly 2 thousands to get the cylinder to rotate without binding. Once that was done I tried cocking it slowly and while the hand rotated the cylinder it didn't fully engage into the bolt. I then tried to cock it fast and it locked up as it should.
I called a gunsmith friend, and he advised me that the hand is just a bit short for that cylinder (the black powder cylinder locks up fine with slow cocking) Now the fix, he said I could take the gun apart, put the hand on a flat steel surface and gently tap on it, and that would stretch the hand enough to work properly. At this time I'm not going to try this!! As long as I remember to cock the revolver forcefully (or fast) it will lock up fine.
