ROFLMAO...Springfield Armory

I noticed the SAR-8 from Springfield Armory. Wicked looking rifle and it looks pretty solid considering it weighs in at ~10 lbs and has a barrel length of ~18".
Don't get me wrong I respect SA for the M1A and the M6 ( M6 looks like a handy tool to have in any backpack, vehicle,etc...) but I was looking at the price for a 20 round magazine for the SAR-8...$40.00!
I believe that this price was also the result of a "special".
Did time just fly by really fast and I no longer the meaning of the value of two twenty dollar bills or is SA really "putting" it to their customers?
Curious to know how much the SAR-8 costs. Seen it advertised on a few sites (www.gunbroker.com/www.younggunsonline.com) for ~$700.00
Sheesh! Glad I can pick up 20-round metric mags for the FN-FAL at $12.00 a pop, or 30-round AR-15 mags for ~$15.00 ...

Springfield really doesn't have much say in the price of G3 magazines. For HK or HK contract 20-rnd magazines, $40 is pretty typical, especially for steel.

I was lucky enough to buy some new FMP alloy mags last year from Interordnance for $20 each. That was a steal.

I paid about $1200 for my SAR-8 NIB. I thought about a FAL but decided to go with something where parts could be easy to come by. The magazines do cost a lot: about $80 new, although SA's "loaded" offer sells them for about $40. The only gripe I really have is that it takes superhuman strength to cock the gun. I am not very strong at all, but even the gun store owner who is had to sit it on its buttstock to cock the gun.

?? Before the latest import ban FAL parts kits were $100 for everything minus receiver.

You leave out the barrel, you can still get them for $100 (everything - receiver and barrel).

Battler.

Keep your eyes open when reading Shotgun News and you will find good deals on used contract G3 mags. I consistently find them for around $20-25.

GI Joe,

Send that back to Springfield and have them fix it. That's not normal. Sounds like they might have too large of a diameter rollers in the bolt, or the goofey reciever and barrel are out of alignment. The HK is a little hard to unlock but nothing like what you describe.
I've seen others send them back and tell them to keep them.

Difficult to find FAL parts? Not from what I've seen. FAL's are all over the place, and much more common than any of the G3 variants I have seen. Like it was said parts kits are still avalible without the barrels. I would have to say that FAL are probably some of the MOST avalible and inexpensive parts today. Plus the receivers avalible for them are MUCH better than the majority of american made G3's out there. I haven't seen the SAR-8, however I would assume it is quite good.
