rock river polymer 1911s

so, after about 2 years of "coming soon" I see rock river arms finally has them up on their site with specs...

...and an MSRP of $1000:eek:

did I miss something here? they are asking more than a brand new springfield milspec for a 1911 with a plastic frame and mostly aluminum parts. have they gone off their rocker? Ruger 1911s are mostly stainless and wood and usually sell for $600.
 
I don't know much about their poly 1911, other than that I find the very idea to be an abomination, but Rock River makes semi-custom-quality all-steel 1911s, so I can't say I'm surprised at the price they're suggesting for the poly. Also, the MSRP that I just saw on their site was $925, not $1000, and the street price will probably end up a decent amount less than that. And what's aluminum besides the trigger?

hmm, I must have misread, I thought it was $975 and being shocked I felt like rounding up.

I am not adverse to them using polymer for 1911s but for the last 2 years that they've been teasing about them, I figured they would be competitively priced with the budget brand 1911s like armscor. considering aluminum and plastic rather than straight steel like everyone else, even for a semi custom job that is not competitive pricing.

even looking at real world pricing, $700(conservative guestimate) that is not very good considering I can get a Ruger SR1911 for $625 all day long.
 
I expect they'll have just as much success as Wilson and Kimber did with their poly framed "1911"s. :rolleyes:

They list the weight as 2 pounds. My stock 1911 is something like 2.5 pounds I hope that is a miss print.

Weren't those actually double stack imports from Israel?
 
I was meaning the same price point as armscor. but while we're talking about their rifles and kits, they are very tight fitting and won't always fit other AR parts. every person I've ever met that's owned one of their AR10 style rifles has had a negative review. so really, their pricing is upper mid tier and their actual quality is lower mid tier at best.
 
Their 1911s are outstanding, though. I wish they had ignored the AR stuff and stuck to what they were doing an amazing job at. Nice to see them getting back to it.
 
I really like the looks of their upper end stainless 1911... but $3,000! That's a ton of money, and I could buy a fancy race gun for that money (or any number of full-custom builds). I'd love to see/handle one just to see what the fuss is about.
 
If they were doing the same fit and finish on the $1000 plastic guns as they do on the $3000 all-steel guns, they might be on to something.
I can't afford a $3000 anything that doesn't have an engine and four wheels, but a hand-fitted pistol for $1000 sounds interesting.
