Rock River Arms LAR-47

Well, this rifle has certainly piqued my interest. It apparently takes standard AK magazines. Seems expensive for what it is though and upper and lower are both proprietary.

Hmmm, all the problems with 7.62x39 on standard AR lowers appear to be addressed here, this thing is built from the ground up to work with 7.62x39 reliably.

All those optic mounting issues with AK's may be resolved with this weapon. But you have to wonder if it will have the renown reliability of the AK-47.

Its something interesting at least. I kinda want to chrck one out and really think it would be a fun rifle. Mags are cheap, but ar mags are to, ammo is cheap, but you can find cheap .233 also. For competative shooters or tacticool guys like me it woukd be fun. I bet they sell g its a.pretty cool rifle. I bet it would go well with the gamer market. I kinda want one,.what are they going for?

I bet this is a great gun, all RRA guns I've ever fired have been. But, AK reliablity/durability--probably not. The AK is primarly reliable due to tolerances, the piston design, the bolt/bolt carrier design, the rail design, the extractor design, ect... From what I've seen of this rifle those features aren't there.

But, it could be ever better. Who knows? I'd buy one if I had some extra money hanging around...

Wow, I had no idea RRA made something like this. It's a dead-on clone of the Spec-Ops Only 7.62x39 AR made by Knights Armament, the SR-47. THe idea behind that rifle was to allow special operations forces to resupply with ammunition taken from dead Taliban and Al-Qaeda in the "target-rich environments" of Afghan caves. I've been wanting one since I first read that article in Assault Weapons.

Are they even available yet? I order a LPK from RRA last August and shortly after the new year they sent me a 2012 catalog and its not listed in the catalog.

I also heard or read somewhere that one of the main reasons for special forces to use 7.62x39 was to keep covert operations covert. Its hard to deny US/NATO forces were involved in somthing they want to keep secret when there are 5.56 cases laying around the aftermath.....;)

Yep, its expensive.

No I can't afford it.

Other than the front sight I like it!

Had no idea they had this one out.

No way but I sure do like it.

They have done what the SIG556r couldn't... lol.

I wonder how the extractor handles the steel cases.

I wouldn't pay that much for one, IMO an RPK is probably a better choice.

Probably, but its the first AR take on the AK that looks to be done right.

XCR does it mostly good, but has to use the AR type adaptor mags for it.

It does have the Long Stroke Piston and the AK type rugged bolt.

Combine the two and .........

Regardless, its a new take and while the cost is high its both interesting and to me appealing.

Kudos to RRA for thinking outside the box

Agreed. I see a problem though:

The mag release right in front of the trigger, inside the trigger guard. That is an accident waiting for a place to happen.

Meh, maybe, but how many people probably said the same thing about the safety on the M1 Garand, M14, Ruger Minis, etc.?
