Rock Island M206

I'd buy one. Six shots, takes Colt grips, the trigger can be improved with wolff springs, inexpensive, utilitarian. What's not to like?

If I could find a nib one for sub $200ish I'd probably get one and not cry about abusing it.

I have played with a model 200, and it is a basic plain 4" 6 shot .38, It will not win any pretty awards but at 10 yards it hit where I shot. the DA was smooth enough and the SA was nice. If you have $250 and need/want a pistol go for it, it will do what you need it to and a 158 gr SWCHP at 750-800 fps is not something that can be ignored by anyone that is being hit by it

Wow.

I read the article and now I'm REALLY wanting one of these Rock Island M206 revolvers, the short barreled one with the wood grips.

VERY cool little guns... probably not a Colt Python quality piece, but six shots of .38 special would put the hurtin' on most bad guys.

Well, those who have said they wanted a new Colt DS have one; those guns are total clones of the old Colts, antique lockwork and all. I can't tell how well they are made or how well they will shoot, (or whether the parts might fit the Colts), but the design is sure all there.

Jim I saw a comparison picture and the M206 sure looked a bit larger than a Colt Detective Special. Seemed like the frame on the M206 was taller.

Doesn't bother me much. I'll keep an eye out for one of these if I see on at a gun show or shop, and if it's the right price I'll snatch it.

I thought I had read the lockwork was different from the Colt?

But then I wouldn't know the difference if they were disassembled right in front of me. Parts is parts for the most part.

If I was just in the market for "A" revolver, and had a limited number of dollars to spend, I don't see why they wouldn't do. Even a used Taurus,, not to mention a Model 10/64 cost a bit more these days than the price being quoted here.

Many years ago, I had a Squires-Bingham (the company that morphed inot Armscor) Model 20, 22 rifle. I paid $49.95 for that rifle at K-Mart, and it was one of the best 22 rifles I ever owned. My son claimed it when he got older and to the best of my knowledge, he still has it. I'll have to ask him someday if I think about it.

Agreed, price doesn't always mean anything.
There's been and are lots of inexpensive shootin' irons that do the job, even if they will never cause great excitement among the collecting crowd.

Another agreement. The goodness or badness of a gun is in how well it shoots and how durable it is, not the price.

My favorite handgun cost me $200 (used). It has a great trigger and has shot well for decades.

Last summer I decided to spend money on a brand-new pistol and bought a Sig when my daughter wanted a 22. It is a total piece of junk.

I saw a video last night on You Tube were they were shooting an M206 that was a range rental and that had an estimated 10K rounds through it. They reported no problems.

Long term durability would be one thing that would concern me about such an inexpensive revolver, at least that one specimen seemed to do well though.

I have both the 200 and the 206, they're not pretty but they're like a Timex "takes a licking.....". As for customer service I called them and asked if they made bobbed hammers for their 206 .38 revolver. They took my name and address, I figured I'd get a catalog, a week later I checked the mail and Voila!! a free bobbed hammer. Excellent customer service.

those guns are total clones of the old Colts, antique lockwork and all.
Externally, they look the same, but the mainspring is a coil and strut (a bit like Ruger) instead of Colt's V-shaped leaf. The Rock Island has a floating firing pin, and the cylinder notches are different.

I've handled a couple. The trigger does feel like a DS, but a bit lighter. The only problem I saw was that the barrel was screwed on a hair crooked.

Ohhhh man... why do I have to be in the middle of a move??

When I get settled in, I will make it my life's goal to get an Armscor M206 revolver. All this talking about them is giving me the vapors!! Honestly, I've heard nothing but good things about them!!
