Rock Island Armory (Armscor) 1911

Just got my first 1911. A brand new Rock Island 1911 FS Tactical 45acp with the dura-coat finish. $420. Wow, for the price. Tight slide, crisp trigger, pretty good fit and finish. Ambi safety, skeleton hammer, novak style sight, textured front and back of grip, guide rod, beaver tail grip safety. So many extra features.

Took it out and shot a few boxes through it with no issues. Even though the factory recommended breaking-in period is 500 rounds, this gun has been perfectly reliable so far. Accuracy is pretty good.

Highly recommend RIA, Amazing price. These things should be selling like hot-cakes. Probably not as accurate as a Les Baer or other custom, but I really cannot tell any difference from some higher priced 1911's by S&W, Remington, Ruger, and Springfield that I've encountered. WOW!! great value. People have been telling me that these are bottom level cheap 1911's for a cheap price. RIA is definitely breaking into the general 1911 market now, some of there stuff is $700-$900 guns at a $375-$650 price.

Sounds like a very solid 1911 for under $500. I prefer a classic 1911 but have to admit most people like the modern upgrades yours came with out of the box. Well done!

I've owned my RIA GI 1911 for a few years now. I absolutely love it. It's not very pretty and it can be picky with some mags, but all in all, it's a great pistol. I bought mine NIB in 2008 for right around $390. Only issues if found is that it does not go into full battery on the last round of a few Wilson Combat mags I own....

A number of months back I did a taster's choice with a number of 1911s at a gun store. A Springfield Armory Mil-Spec, a Ruger SR1911, a Remington R1, and a Rock Island Armory GI. The best trigger of the lot was the Rock Island. It wasn't the prettiest by far, but the mechanics seemed solid.

That was a very good deal on the Tactical. And great customer service as a bonus. How do you like the finish? I've never seen the factory Dura-Coat. Hope you thoroughly cleaned it prior to. Congratulations.

I love the dura-coat finish on this pistol, imashooter. I've never really encountered dura-coat before this. It is has a few speckled spots in it, (almost like it got painted in a dusty area). But, it already seems a lot more holster-ware resistant than the parkerizing finish that my buddy has on his RIA 1911. The only things that I might change on the pistol is the ambi-safety (I'm right handed) and the rubber grips. Overall, this pistol has just become my favorite semi-auto that I own. I love it almost as much as my six-guns.
