Does anyone know the quality of Rock Island Armory's 1911? I was looking at one, and they look to be pretty historically accurate.

Thanks

I know around the late sixties or mid seventies, the US Army wanted something for it's generals and upper brass to carry. Bids were put in, and the Rock Island Armory won it with the scaled down version of the 1911 model. It was then manufactured by Colt and was called the Officer's Model. I know very little more about it than that. Of course, it worked on other things besides hand guns.:) I would be interested in other models also.

I have not found a web site for the commercial Rock Island Armory. The only ads I have seen are those in SGN for SARCO and another company.

I want to know since none of the ads state, are they forged or cast? Where were they made, I have heard rumors that they were/are made in the Philippines.

The RIA 1911s are not a bad pistol for the money. Out of the box, the one I had shot just over 2.25" at 20m for 5 shots of Winchster 230gr white box. It will be home from having Cylinder & Slide do a job on it this week. Last report after having an NM bushing and recrowing the barrel, with Fed 185gr Hyshoks it is under a 1.5" grp at 20m.

For the money they are a good buy. They is a piece in the current Combat Handguns about the upgraded version of them, check it out.
