Robber Bashes Woman With Concrete Block
Victim Attacked After NYC Church Service
July 10, 2000
NEW YORK (AP) -- A 25-year-old woman was hit in the head with a 5-pound concrete block by a man who tried unsuccessfully to snatch her purse then ran away, police said.
Tiffany Goldberg suffered a fractured skull, two chipped teeth, cuts and bruises when she fell to the pavement after she was attacked Sunday while walking from church to a subway station.
The chunk of concrete, believed to be a piece of sidewalk, was found nearby.
Goldberg was hospitalized this morning in stable condition. Hospital officials said there was no apparent sign of neurological damage and she was able to speak by telephone to her father in Madison, Wis.
"This is a terrible thing to have happen," Mayor Rudolph Giuliani said.
Third such attack in year
It was at least the third such attack in New York during the past year.
In May, a 30-year-old Queens woman was hit with a brick and robbed.
Last November, Nicole Barrett, 27, was hit on the head with a paving brick in midtown Manhattan while walking to work. She underwent two brain operations and has returned to her home in Texas for rehabilitation.
Paris Drake, an ex-convict and drug abuser, was charged with second-degree attempted murder for Barrett's attack. He has pleaded not guilty.

Errr...
It's about time that those “assault” bricks were registered!
What happened to the required “safety locks”?
New York… What a place not to go to.
