Robar NP3 coat or not

I am thinking about sending my Mak 90 (post ban) to Robar to have the entire thing coated in NP3 plus. I know it is an AK but I want the gun to last for a very long time without corrosion issues. I am not real worried about preserving the value of the rifle as i dont plan on getting rid of it. Anybody have any experience with NP3? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

NP3 is a great coating. Almost all of my bcgs are NP3 plated. The big difference between np3 and np3 plus is that np3 plus is more resistant to salt water. Np3 is still resistant to salt water, but not as much as np3 plus. Unluss your gun is taking a swim at the beach np3 will be fine. If the gun is made of stainless steel and has a blued finish it shouldn't need it though.

It is just a stamped sheet metal Norinco Mak 90 and I live about 25-30 minutes from the beach in VA. Humidity here is crazy I think today we had about 93% so i really want a coating that i do not have to worry about

I asked about the differences between NP3 and NP3+ when I sent my two pistols in. Robar said NP3+ was intended for marine environments (as in shipboard), or heavy humidity. Sounds like you are in an area that could justify the NP3+.

When I sent the pistols in, I had one (Ruger Mk III) coated in NP3, and the other (PPS) coated in NP3+. To the eye and touch they are virtually identical, so if you like the NP3 "look" you'll get the same with the NP3+.

On occasion you will see Robar run month long specials; I typically see discounts (typically 20%) or a free upgrade from NP3 to NP3+. Sounds like that'll fit right within the scope of your order :)

I live in Virginia beach and have had no problems with np3. If you look at the graph on robar's website np3 is rated for a constant salt water spray for 150 hours, and np3 plus is at 1000 hours. I doubt your gun will ever see that much salt water. If you don't plan on shooting it use cosmoline, but if you do use np3 for the internals. I recommend roguard for the outside of the gun. It offers all the corrosion resistance you need.

Don't know a thing about the NP3 coating but why not get a Dura Coat kit of a similar color and some clear coat and make it a DIY job. Surely you'd come out cheaper and have a similar look.
