I have one on order. It should be coming in this week. I don't own nor have I ever fired an AK, so I was going by the suggestions of many on this board and AK-47.net for recommendations. Generally, the comments I saw were very positive. What it came down to for me was the issue of quality. I already own a BM AR-15 and consider it to be of exceptional quality (well engineered, fit and finish are excellent). I have been wanting to get an AK for some time to complement my AR, but so far have passed on them because I think most look like a five-year-old put them together from junk in his daddy's garage. I don't buy cheaply made guns. I would rather spend my money on something else of quality. In any case, the descriptions of the VEPR II matched what I was looking for. Several people said they were probably some of the best AK's available. One comment in particular that I saw at AK-47.net was from a fellow BM owner who said the VEPR II was as good as his AR in fit and finish. Keep in mind that I am still filled with some trepidation as this is probably the first gun I have purchased sight unseen, i.e., I have not handled or looked at a VEPR II in person. Most people recommend against that, and so do I usually, but the nearest shop that I am aware of that sells them is almost three hours away (probably one closer but didn't feel like calling every gun shop within a 100-mile radius. In any case, I had a local dealer whom I like order one last Monday. I will post a report of my experience when I get it in.
BTW, I called Robinson Arms last Friday to check on the status of the order and they told me that my order was one of the last that they filled before they run out parts, and will probably not get new stock in before March.
