Rings and bases for a savage

Wanting some info on what would be the best setup for a Savage 114 American classic for rings and bases. Wanting to mount a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 and not sure what bases and rings work the best. Was thinking about medium rings? Which bases are the best. I have looked at Weaver mounts and also Leupold. Any suggestions?

IMO the best setup would be any set of quality Weaver style bases, and a set of Burris Signature Zee rings with the inserts in medium. It's the setup I'd run, and in fact, I've run that setup on a similar gun with that same scope in the past.

I'll second Talley Lightweights as the best. I've got lots of rifles, but all the ones I've bought in the last year and a half since discovering the Talley's are wearing them.

I have used the Leupold bases and rings for several years. I have also used Redfield rings and bases. My nod will always go to the Leupold's, they seem to always "lock up" the scope the best for me in my applications.

My #2 son,(no he doesn't like that monicker) has been using those new "one-piece base and ring" configurations from Game Reaper, and he likes them pretty well, and I also like the "longer" ring screws that accompany them.;)

Be sure your scope tube is long enough to use two piece bases...the Savage is a lllooonnngggg action. I had to go with a one-piece Leupold base in order for my VX1 to fit.
