Rimfire shooter...what do you shoot at?

Do you shoot at paper? Steel? Junk? Rocks? Pinecones?whatever is laying about?

I have made so many targets over the years, I must have depleted the worlds steel supply. I made spinners, swingers, resets, fall downs, pop ups, even a gallery with moving ducks and stars. Then I made some targets that keep my grandkids happily shootinig for hours.

These things are so much fun, set them out and shoot til you are tired, run out of ammo, or it is just time to go home.

I have an ancient twin spinner that I shoot at. Just welded up my rimfire/handgun model ...again. I think it's mostly made of welding rod at this point. I don't even bother to paint it anymore.
 
I buy alot of junk cars and trucks that I take to the salvage yard(they pay pretty good now since steel is high). I been doing it for several years when Im not working my regular job as a truck driver,and occasional welder.

On our property I have a good sized area,50+ acres in one spot where I line up vehicles like old cars and trucks that dont run anymore,then I just unload on them for hours,i never get bored at it. Also I shoot sometimes at paper targets,beer cans,barrels of water at 200 or so yards. My favorite is the junk vehicles,you should try it sometime! Im getting pretty good at writing my name in bullet holes on the doors, I still havent mastered that but Im trying lol:D. Have fun and Good Shooting!
 
Paper targets (I like the large circle target and the group of 4 or 5 smaller circle targets), shotgun shells (empty ones lying around the range), and my favorite ... pop cans. For extra fun we fill the pop cans with water. The .22 magnum makes them really go SPLAT! (only get one shot per can that way though ... but it makes recycling easy!). Another fun shot is fill the bottom can with water and then stack a few empty ones on top. Hit the bottom can with the .22 mag and .... :) . The one other one I like a lot is to stack a bunch of cans all over down range and maybe a few smaller targets (like the empty shells) and load the 30 round magazine into the VTR .... 30 seconds of Rambo, hehehe.
 
I like eggs, which explode nicely but aren't so cheap to waste anymore, cans of all kinds of course, and golf balls, especially the bright Optic Orange ones. I will shoot damn near anything with a rimfire .22 as long as the range allows it!

Those jumping jacks are nicely done.
 
I like to shoot at old water bottles filled with colored tap water. They're easy to police and not as sharp as soda cans. We make a game of shooting different color/size/distance bottles.
I came up with a golf type game where you shoot for "par". You can also play a name that tune type game by calling your shots.
See who can hit the deep target iron sighted on the first try!

All day fun with $20 and a .22
 
Old softballs,,,

They can be found at any used junk store,,,
Surprisingly enough they last a while.

I like the way they jump and roll,,,
Chase em all the way down the range.

I don't have a place to plink so I have to do my shooting at my club which prohibits the use of any targets or hangers made of metal.

Champion makes some chalk discs that are OK to shoot. My girls shoot so well, though, that they are not very challenging.

I buy packs of Necco wafers in the candy shelf. These are flat discs of licorice-type candy. Taste sort of like the little valentine hearts with phrases on them.

They shatter nicely when hit, they are cheap and biodegradable.
 
One that I'm getting ready to try out is clays. You get an old wood stump and put in two nails side by side about halfway in and set them up so they look like a round paper target. They are cheap and you know you've hit one when you out at 100 or so yards.
 
I enjoy shooting squirrels, too...but thet are few a far between as of late. However, fieldlarks are all over the place and I regularly dispatch hundreds of them.


I still have the grandkids shoot Rimfire Shootin' Jacks.
 
Any type of ball makes a great target for .22 rimfire.

Tennis balls and raquet balls give a little hop when you hit them, but don't usually go far, unless you hit them right at the bottom.

Golfballs are also a hoot. They tend to fly pretty far, so sometime I'll put a large cardboard box behind it. The bonus with golfballs is that they are about the same size as a squirrels head

Shotgun hulls also make good targets. And there are usually plenty lying around at the range.

For run and gun fun we use balloons or clay piqeons, as they instantly register any hit.

Bowling pins are also fun, as you often need to hit them on the top to get them to fall over.
