Right Price, Wrong Magazines . . . .

Pursuant to a previous post in which I announced the Hi-Power purchase, and after Stephen A. Camp cautioned me that Browning hicaps were expensive (on the order of 50 to 60 big ones) I got on the Brownell's web site and ordered me two. After all, I just got two new factory hicaps for my Glock 19 (we won't talk about how much THEY cost).

They came today; they're 10 rounders (OUCH!! Who says 9mm is an ineffective cartridge??!!). They're beautiful, don't get me wrong, and I am in no way vexed at anyone other than myself. But, let me ask again:

Where can I get new, Browning (or, I guess, Mec-Gar, cause they're OEM) 13 round magazines for a 9mm Browning Hi-Power?

Many thanks. I am a moron (but I'm a moron with lots of magazines).

Fork out $4.00 for an issue of Shotgun News. You'll be surprised at how abundent Hicaps really are. Just about any good gun store should sell them as well.

Ditto what Ben said. I would add a copy of The Gun List. BTW, where did you come up with your Glock 19 Mags?

Ben and Mossyrock,

Would these sources you mention have NEW factory hicaps, or just used?

Mossyrock: I didn't save my paperwork from the purchase, but it would have to be Glockmeister or Lone Wolf Distributors, I imagine:

2cats-I just ordered South African police mags for the Browning Hi Power. They are 17 rounders and made in Italy under an FN license agreement. From the research that I've done, these are superb mags. I'll let you know more when I get them. I found them at CDNN for $25 each + shipping. Not bad! By the way, you can look at the ads for Gun List and Shotgun News online for free. High caps are out there, but watch your wallet melt.

aztec777,

I recently bought 4 of these South African magazines, but I wasn't lucky enough to get them at $25 each--I paid $40 each. I assume we are talking about the same magazines. I found them to be very well constructed; metal followers and very stout springs. They fit my HiPower perfectly and I've had no problems with feeding.

While round 16 was difficult to load, round 17 was VERY difficult. I almost went out to buy a magazine loading tool.

Well, South Africa aside, Browning magazines under an FN license in Italy sure sounds like Mec-Gar, which would be terrific.

However:

Who/what is CDNN?

When were the magazines manufactured?

Are aztec777 and Numbers (Joe)'s purchases legal?

Are the magazines in Gun List and Shotgun News new or used?

What about the 13 round, new, factory OEM magazines?

Numbers (Joe), where did you make your purchase?

Where can I get new, Browning (or, I guess, Mec-Gar, cause they're OEM) 13 round magazines for a 9mm Browning Hi-Power?

Thanks again!

The purchases are legal. The law banned sale or importation of hi-cap magazines made after a certain date. Unless there is a state or local law to the contrary, those in existence can be sold freely. CDNN is CDNN Investments, PO Box 6514, Abilene, TX, 1-800-588-9500.

I bought both a SA 17 round mag and a 13 round mag that CDNN sells from Pachmar. The 17 round mag is good but the 13 round mag is excellent, and only $20 each. I bought more of the 13 round magazines from CDNN. Two weeks later at a gun-show had a big mag seller say that the Pachmar mags were unmarked browning mags that browning had moved out of the factory - and he was selling them for $40 each. I've had good service from CDNN - no problems.

2cats,

The magazines are new and I bought them at a gun show in San Antonio from a fella that's always there. He's based in Corpus Christi and I think he makes other gun shows throughout Texas. He has "zillions" of new magazines for all guns. He also has 13 round magazines for the HiPower.

He and I talked a little about the legality and he told me that the magazines were made (pre-ban) by FN for the South African police, but they (the South African police) switched from HiPowers to Glocks and obviously had no use for HiPower magazines. He said that there was a lot of legal activity in getting these magazines into the U.S. market.

I guess he's telling the truth; if not, at least it's an interesting story.

Groovy, guys (and any gals). I will go forth and get some high caps for less than I paid for the 10 rounders.
