When did Texas make it mandatory to fill out forms from an FFL to purchase a rifle or shotguns?. Or is this just a way for dealers (FFL)to protect themselves?

Texas didn't the feds did. BATFE ( usta was the ATF) will say bad things in a court of law about FFLs that don't use an BATFE form 4473

Omnibus Crime Control Act of 1968

Usually referred to as the Gun Control Act of 68 (GCA 68). Fed law mandating licensing of gun dealers, setting age limits on gun purchases, filling out forms, and a whole bunch of other stuff as well.

Texas may have added their own state forms and requirements afterwards, I don't know, sorry. Some states do, others don't.

This was sold as way to curb gun crime and gun trafficking and to keep us all safer. We all know how well that worked. Don't we? I mean, come on, it stopped handguns from moving from state to state to bolster criminal enterprises. It stopped 16 year old gang bangers from being able to get handguns. It made sure that Mexican Drug Cartels couldn't get their hands on full auto battle rifles, hand grenades, grenade launchers, RPGs, and other military weaponry. I think we should do more of this type of gun control. :barf:
