rifled choke tube

If you put a rifled choke tube on a smooth bore barrel, would you still shoot fostered slugs or would you have to shoot the sabot slugs? Thanks for the help.

The purpose of the rifled choke tube is to allow you to shoot either round through your smooth bore shotgun barrel.

It is not as accurate as a fully rifled barrel, but it will work.

I have a cousin that had a Mossberg 500 12 Ga that he shot Brenneke slugs in his smooth bore shotgun in a state where he was allowed to use a Rifle during the deer season. He just felt that the 12 ga placed properly would stop a deer much better than his 30-30 Winchester.

In my opinion both types of slug are very good in a shot gun barrel and the rifled choke tube really is not necessary - but would probably help.

Learn somthin' every day...

I thought that the purpose was to impart some spin to the wad, for better patterns, ala the old Boss "Paradox" guns...

But what I don't know vastly exceeds what I do know.
