Rifled Chock Tube for Rem. 870

Better & cheaper way may be to pattern some smooth bore slugs first - just to see what happens. A rifled choke tube (RCT)doesn't mean that it'll shoot any better.

I did some albeit abbreviated tests with a 12 ga 870 & couldn't get the thing to shoot worth beans compared to a Brenneke slug in smooth bore (modified and imp cyl).

Nice advantage of having defined slug loads out of the smooth bore is if you need a slug, you just slip one in without having to dink with your tubes.

YMMV

Using the best slug in each, the difference between my Deer 870 with its rifled choke tube and my HD 870 with its chokeless bbl is less than an inch at 100 yards. YMMV of course.

The Rottweil Brenneke 20 gauge slug is a great deer round. Others are OK. Find a slug that puts them into a deer shoulder at 50 yards and you're set.

If your friend is looking for a rifled tube because the piece isn't shooting well, there's old threads on setting up pump guns for Slugs that may be invaluable.

HTH....

Just to update you, remington doesn't offer a rifle choke for the 20ga but do for the 12.......

A friend point that out to me just now, and their web site confirms it.
