Rifle waiting period in California

I know that the handgun waiting period is 10 days (10 24 hour periods), but I am purchasing my first Rifle on Friday. I am going to some ranges in SLO county (recomended to me on this fine forum) and I was hoping to bring it along. I am afraid that the waiting period might put a damper on my plans :(
So, does anyone have any info on this? What is the rifle waiting period?
 
Do'nt understand? Private parties are exempt! Last I heard even private partyes were subject to a 10 day wait.

I thought both parties needed to be present at an FFL(both long and handgun), and after the 10th day the buyer can return to pick up the firearm from the FFL. Thats "if" the D.R.O.S./background check did not get declined by the Ca. D.O.J.

Since 1991 private parties are requiered to use the services of an FFL. same law requiered for C&Rs made after 1899 to go through the same bull! You can't just fill out an ATF form4473 and walk since then. Unless you have a C&R lic. But I could be wrong!

I recently bought a shotgun using a private party transfer (PPT).

I just spoke with a dealer about using him for a PPT on a rifle.

In fact, if you go to another state on a hunting trip, buy the rifle there,(instant background check and no waiting period), and go hunting, you must then have a dealer in that state ship the rifle to an FFL dealer in CA so he can do a background check and impose a 10-day waiting period (and charge you for the state fees and a handling fee) before you can take possession of your rifle in CA. You may not transport it into CA yourself!!!

Well, don't worry, he won't be able to shoot the messenger for at least 10 days. That's a pretty decent headstart.

<-----------Is happy he lives in WA, where there is no waiting period even for handguns provided you have a CPL.
 
The 10 day waiting period is a fact of life for us poor residents of the PRK!!! Our politicians would remove all sharp and pointy objects and vehicles over 10 years old if they could get away with it too!!! :D

While everyone else in the country, well that is except those in the PRK, NYC, NJ, Mass and Conn and I believe Hawaii and perhaps Chicago rejoice in the AWB lifting, those of us in the "occcupied" territories will have to suffer the ridicle of people in the "free" areas and our neighbors who hate firearms.

Yeah, its getting pretty unbearable in Southern Kali, the rent is through the roof, and fixed mags arent my cup of tea! Finally got the 10 day started on my yugo sks, turners got a heap of em for 199, I checked a few out and they are in pretty good condition.
 
The wait!!!

yes, 10 days for long guns and handguns (usually 11 'cause most FFL/dealers want to be safe)...but the real glitch is with the hand gun law...you cannot purchase more than one handgun (Kalifornia Legal) in a thirty day period...then the 10 day rule applies...really 40 days...

i too have been caught up in this red tape hassle...AND the fees will be going up on Nov 1...

the price we pay for our rights...

in this day of instant info on anything including your shoe size, i would think that if i can write a check to have it clear my bank the next day then i would think that the CAL/DOJ could come back a tad bit quicker (if one gets pulled over by the local officer, he can find out about you immediatly) on the BG trying to buy...but wait...what was i thinking???

The post above was referring to "C&R" - "curio & relic" firearms as exempt from the waiting period. Antique black powder firearms, basically.

Curio and relic firearms are not antique black powder firearms. They are cartridge firearms that have been declared of interest to collectors. They can either be on the BATF list of C&R firearms or have been manufactured at least 50 years ago.

That being said, California law exempts C&R rifles and shotguns from the requirement to be transferred through a dealer. Private party sales of those firearms can be completed between the parties involved without going to a dealer.
