Rifle Technique in a Hi-power match for a newbie, quick!

I shot my first cmp hi-power match last weekend, with the club's loaner Garand. I had a great time, thanks to a hi-power vet who took me under his wing in the pits. I didn't screw up too badly thanks to him. Anyway he invited me to his club this weekend to shoot again, this time with his Garands, and I'm looking for quick reference on how to properly arrange myself during the offhand, sitting and prone strings of fire.

I grew up shooting muzzleloaders, and my ol' smokepole's barrel is 41" long, with a rate of fire of about 1 round per 1.5 minutes...The contortions I go through to get that hunk of metal on target would horrify my hi-power rifle compatriots, and I would prefer to preserve them from that sight again.

Although I shot the cmp in hot pursuit of a surplus Garand, the same rifle my grandfather used in the South Pacific, I definately feel at home at the hi-power match...

Thanks, all!

relax....go to the range and ask questions....them ole boys will set you straight because they want to see the sport continue. I started hi-power 10 years ago and didn't know much about the protocal but many shooters were real helpful. I did know how to shoot but the hi-power game is a little different than just going to the range. ask they will help!!!!ENJOY !!!!!

Buckskinner, there ought to be some Highpower clinics starting up in your area soon...they should teach your the basics. I'll be going to a couple soon too.

This is where I started.

I just got into high power about a year ago. I have not been able to shoot as much because of conflicts of shooting times, but when I did go to my local shoot, the guys there were great. I really screwed up that first time and had no clue what I was doing, but they were real nice to me and no one made me feel like an idiot. They are all really helpful.

Anyway, here is the website that got me through most of it. Bill is a real helpful guy and will respond to your questions as well. Good luck.
