I reload, so when it comes to my first rifle scope do I want...

A: a scope that I have to adjust the elevation knob for various distances

B: a scope with a distance reticle like the Nikon BDC reticle

Thank you so much for you help!!!

If you're shooting at paper at various distances, a scope with very-reliable adjustments is far better. One which you can set and reset and reliably return to the original setting.

For hunting, I've always zeroed for 200 yards and after that it's a case of "Set it and forget it." Kentucky windage and all that guesstimation has always been good enough.

First determine if the scope will mostly be used for paper target or regular hunting, then approximate distances you might be shooting. I use my rifles with scopes in two distinct parts of Texas thus different powers. One place in the East Texas Piney woods is very dense with rarely a shot over 100 yards so I use a 1X4 scope. Out further West In Utopia, Texas which is West of San Antonio the open distances are a lot further so I generally use a 3X9. Sometimes it is recommended that you use 1X power for every 100 yards of distance but in my case I like to crank it up and use more power than some.

Assuming that this is a hunting setup, +1 for what Art is saying.

For hunting I have always felt it is better to keep it as simple as possible. Sight your rifle in at 200 yards and then know what the bullet is going to do from 25 yards out to 400, depending on caliber and effective range.
