Rifle Ranges

Anyone live in an area where the rifle ranges are disappointingly short range?

In my area, there is only one rifle range that I know of and it only goes up to 100 yards.

Sometimes I wish I could just purchase some border city limits land and use it as a long range, but that sounds like a lot of money. I don't know anyone with lots of land that I could shoot on.

Would it ever be possible for civilians to use a national guard range? I can imaging that they would have 300 and 500 yard range.

You may check and see if the local Police or Sheriff allows the public access to their range. I am pretty sure one of the departments around here does, but I think the time is pretty limited.

Yeah, I know of one range in my area that's 300 yards, members only. Another that's 300, about 45 minutes away, that I think is also members only. Not that it would matter, I'm not driving that far for a range. Fortunately, the one close to me is only $25 a year membership so I did join. For all the good it does me, I've been there twice since I joined last summer.
I've never heard of any over 300 anywhere even remotely close to me. All the rest are 100 and I know of one that's 200.
I can shoot 500 from my moms back yard though.

Guess it depends on where you are - here we have a club that lengthened their 600 yard range top 850 (the property limit) and it gets used by everyone frequently - in addition to their normal 300 yard range and separate pistol range

Out West, all one had to do was go on BLM land and set up as far as you wanted

I don't know of a rifle range of any size within an hour of where I live. Luckily I live pretty far out in the boonies though so I can shoot in my backyard and don't even have a neighbor close enough to hear the shot.

I am extremely blessed where I live. Are rifle range is around 600 yards I believe. In fact, there is a "road" so you can drive all the way to the end to set up/retrieve your targets. Just gotta make sure everyone knows you are down there though ;) lol

There are 3 public ranges near me when I am at school and max is 200yds. Sadly there are no public ranges near me when I am at home, just private.

Shooting ranges

I Googled shooting ranges in my state, looking for long range (500 yards). Found one with 100, 200, 300 and 500 but it is 1 1/2 hours away. I feel it is worth the drive now and then. Priced at only $25 a year membership, What a deal.

Right now In Arizona my public range is Ben Avery a five star range and for a few dollars a day you can shoot from 10 ft to a 1000 yards, with ranges for rifle, pistol, air gun, shotgun trap and skeet, bow, cross bow, bench rest, ect. ect.(if you want to see google Ben Avery Range Phoenix) Of course my selection when I am in Ohio really stinks the public range is a hill side called 100 yards but has slumped to about 95 yards with a few splinter filled benches a true 1/2 star range and it is run by the State of Ohio.

A few in Fl go up to 1,000. The one that I go to is the only one near Jax that is remotely decent, they only go up to 200 yards M.O. We had several ones in San Antonio, they had a 300 yard one. Little trick I do when I would go there is I'd throw my mountain bike in the bed of the truck so it wouldnt take so long to go out to the 300 yard range as it shares the same row with the 100 and 200 yard ones. Didnt want to be rude and take forever during a cease fire to get my targets.
