Rifle range in the N Houston area?

brouhaha

I'm looking for a range in the N. Houston area BESIDES Carter's. Those people piss me off and promote anti-gun show legislation. I'm in The Woodlands area and I wouldn't want to drive more than an hour or so. Anything up near Huntsville? Kingwood? Hemptead?
Thx for any replies.

I'm not sure about this but I've been told that up north on I-45 go to Sam Houston State Park by Huntsville and they have a shooting area. I can't confirm this but that's what I've seen posted here before.

Thanks

I have a friend in Huntsville, so I go up there everyonce in a while. I'll take a look next time. Thanks!

I've heard about a free public range in the national forest near Conroe, but I've never been able to find it. Does anyone know where it is?

In Katy?

It actually Barker, in the impoundment area of Barker Reservoir AKA George Bush Park. Its known as American Shooting Center and has rifle range to 300 yards. If you want to go to 600, you must first qualify at 300, demonstrating your ability to keep the bullets in the berm.

The problem is the range area and the possibility of people in the area. The open range has a partition which allows limited trajectory to 300 yards. The 600 range does not for obivious reasons.

There is one called Thunder or something on 1314 near 242. Don't know much about it, just drive by once in a while.
