DeBee, Check out the NRA Gunsmithing Guide--Updated. Page 137, "A Handy Gun Vise," by Les Bowman. Clear fir, a little plywood and a C-clamp are just about all there is to it. Decker Shooting Products makes/made one based on this design. Think I paid about $60 for mine 15 years ago. Don't know if they're still in business. Anyway, it's a good design and works very well. (The Decker product uses particle board for the base, making it even heavier and steadier, if you want to do a little material substitution when you build one.) Good luck.
