Ribbing Detached on Winchester 1300

Hello TFL,

I am a new member here and have a question for you. The last two ribs on my Winchestre 1300 came detached from the barrel today. I am not sure if they were loose before or if they just detached at once. I honestly havent been paying that close attention to this gun as it is my field/hunting/dog training gun.

What can I do to get the ribbing attached back to my barrell? I bout the gun used and it would cost more than the price I paid for the gun to replace the barrell. However, I am in college and cant afford a new gun right now. Any tricks of the trade out there? Would it be a horrible idea to weld that ribs back to the barrel? What about tapping the top of the barrel and placing a couple screws through the rib just into the barrell? I am no gunsmith by any means but have a couple friends that are. I just wanted to hear a variety of suggestions before I do anything.

I called a Winchester dealer and they said there was nothing I could do...there is no way to reattach the ribs. I find that hard to believe but I suppose that is possible....any suggestions?

It needs resoldering, which also means the bluing will need touching up - it may likely will cost you more than the gun is worth, and I wouldn't rule out that new barrel - you might be able to sell yours as a project item to recoup some of your cost

I have one of those and I think it is a pretty common model.Check Cabela's , Midway and Brownell's for a cheaper replacement barrel. Look on Gunbroker and you may find a 1300 that somebody hacked up the stock on or something for a really low price. I just saw a nice lever action Marlin that someone cut the stock off on for $249 -looked like it was new.Nice parts gun if you'd needed a barrel or action. That is what I would do. Or get your buddy to solder them on for you.You might consider removing the rib as a last resort. Good luck.

To get by use some double sided tape on the barrel and two or three plastic wire ties to hold it in place. This should get you buy until you have the funds. I have seen some High Delrin ribs put on like this and it really suprised me how well it worked.

Clean it in that area with lacquer thinner or acetone - watch the vapors - and Superglue. Seriously. A buddy did it about 10 years ago as a temporary thing and it has been fine ever since, and you can't tell for looking. Just get some help and make sure you do both posts at once, use the slow setting kind, and put heavy rubber bands around it for like 24 hours. The excess you can get off with a razor blade - carefully.

On a inexpensive gun like that I'd certainly try superglue or some type of epoxy. You have nothing to lose. It may not look profesionally done, but I bet it holds for years. When/if it come unglued, redo it.
