Revolvers on TV

With pistols being more popular than ever, just about every character on TV who carries a firearm, carries some type of pistol. I can think of only two regular current television characters who carry revolvers:

that Lt. Steve Sloan character played by Barry Van Dyke

that Andy character on NYPD Blue
Can anyone think of other CURRENT regular television characters who carry a revolver?

Candyman, the crooked cop on "3rd Watch" packs a revolver...

Lieutenant Van Buren's (S. Epatha Merkson) on Law & Order carries a snubbie .38 S&W. You only occasionally see it, but it figured prominently in an episode a couple of years ago.

Officer Barbrady on South Park carries a revolver, too. :)

Beware the man with the S&W .357 Mag.
Chances are he knows how to use it.

Sully on "Third Watch" also carries a wheelgun. Briscoe on "Law And Order". Old timers on the NYPD were given the choice when the order came down on Jan 1st 1994. All new hires aftr that date were required to qualify and carry the nine. The shows do reflect this pretty well.
I was given the option right away by the Admin.Lt. But it was too durn cold to go to the outdoor range. 5 days later I had a heart attack and missed my opportunity for a free Glock or Sig. :(

Detective Brisco (Jerry Orbach) still carries a .38, doesn't he?

Hey FUD,
I know this is off your subject, but what is up with the show NYPD BLUE???
It used to be such a good show, now they talk CRYPTIC so much that you can hardly follow what`s goin' on...
I was a dedicated watcher up until this last season, and then it kinda took a turn for the "Weirder".
I remember feeling apprehensive when Det.
Kelly ( David Carusoe ) left the show because I really liked him, but the show did great with his replacement Det. Simmone and I really almost choked up when he died.
But what the hell...
Ricky Shroeder ? Not so hot.
And now this MYSTICAL CRYPTIC BABBLE all the time !???

Anyways... Revolvers make Cops on T.V. look cool !
I.E. " If it worked for my father before me, it`s good enough for me!!!

Thanks for listening to me babble on guys!
Take Care...

Just slightly off track here, it seems that not too long back it was my impression that the auto was the handgun of choice for background behind newsreaders. I thought that the general public and news people saw the autos as evil and would leave revolvers alone (I sound like a shotgunner there, don't I). Now the revolver is sitting behind every gun event on the news. HMMMMM

Git-Some45, re the crytographic Bronx and Brooklynese stilted and contrived idioms on NYPD Blues, a soap opera with guns n' badges, blame it on the executive producer, Bill Clark, and his staff writers. Clark, a former copper, is ex-NYPD, and when he took over the show, he wanted the show's actors' dialogue to mirrow whatever he heard during his years on NYPD, and, I suppose, the way he talks.

I agree. My wife and I look at each other and say, "Huh?? What did he/she say??" "I dunno. New York gobbledeegook."

I like Shroeder as an actor, but his character, as written and directed, is far too neurotic for me. JMHO. J.B.

Zeck,

I thought I had seen Briscoe carrying a 9mm in a recent episode, but it might have been his new partner.

In the old series Chris Noth (can't remember his character name) carried a revolver.

I just remember another one, too! Police Chief Wiggum on the Simpsons carries a revolver!

Hey don't forget Barney Fyfe carried a revolver with 1 duty bullet in his pocket :D

GIT_SOME.45, haven't watched NYPD Blue regularily for the past couple of years (fatherhood has changed my TV viewing habits) so I'm not really sure what's going on although Jay seems to have a reasonable explaination. Anyway, I agree with you that cops on TV with revolvers (especially with full lugs) look 'cooler' than those who carry just pistols. Regards,

P.S.: Please feel free to send me an e-mail, if anyone can quickly clue me in to what's been happening on the following shows since 1997/98:

X-Files

JAG

NYPD Blues

Star Trek Voyager

Diagnosis Murder

Texas Ranger

X-Files since 97.

Wow, that would be one long e-mail. :D

On topic, not a fictional TV show, but the other night on COPS they were riding with a female officer. During her monolouge she talked about how she carried a .357 and preferred revolvers for their simplicity and reliability. I think thats the first time I've heard somebody on that show talk about their guns.

Lenny Brisco on Law and Order started out with a S&W J-frame .38. Later he changed to a S&W 9mm compact (3914?) but he didn't like it. They even worked it into a show once where Lenny used it as a conversation starter with a suspected crooked cop. Near as I can tell he's back to the wheelgun.

On NYPD Blue, Sipowitz packs a snubbie and most of the time Kim Delaney is packing a rosewood handled revolver in a Fletch holster. Although, I gotta tell ya, with those tight sweaters she wears, I'm not often focusing on the gun as much as I am with the guys...
