Revolvers for Women ... SemiAuto Pistols for Men ... ?

In just about every single gun ad / article that I've ever seen (not ALL but MOST) ...

... the woman is pictured holding a revolver while the man is photographed with a pistol and I was just wondering why is that? Why not the other way around or pistols or revolvers for both?

Women, being more intelligent and immune to the "neat new stuff" virus, get the revolver when hubby moves on the "latest, newest, trickest, gun magazine recommended, space age wonder pistol". j/k (I think)

FUD....C'mon, think about it. Doesn't the revolver open up wide for loading when you push the right button?
Doesn't the auto need to be worked back and forth?
Any more questions?

I'm with Jack on this one. I feel that double action wheelguns are better for defence and autoloaders are more of an offensive weapon. In a defensive situation one often does not have time to obtain proper grip and prepare for firing. In an offensive situation the shooter dictates the set up.

Sample...wake up with bad guy on top of you, pull autoloader from under pillow or wherever, shoot bad guy; if you fail to stop him, will the autoloader fire a second shot. There is no such thing as a limp wristing problem with a double action wheel gun.

Sam...contrary ol coot.

Lavan, I . . . I . . . don't know what to say. But, in all honesty, I never thought about it like that. Of course, autos are the ones that get the magazines shoved up their butt before they'll do anything so I'm not sure how I like the comparison.

I cannot wait for Tamara or one of the other ladies to see this thread.

Uhhhh, men aren't smart enough to handle a revolver, Uhhhh men can't find the safety switch on the revolver, Ohhh I know revolver's look real masculine so the chic get those and automatics look more feminine so the guy handles them!

I dunno, but this weekend in was in Vermount and noticed that the VT Staties were carrying stainless-steel .357's. I was trying to think of the last time i saw a Massachusetts Peace Officer from any jurisdiction carrying a wheel-gun. I don't remember any.

"[Even if there would be] few tears shed if and when the Second Amendment is held to guarantee nothing more than the state National Guard, this would simply show that the Founders were right when they feared that some future generation might wish to abandon liberties that they considered essential, and so sought to protect those liberties in a Bill of Rights. We may tolerate the abridgement of property rights and the elimination of a right to bear arms; but we should not pretend that these are not reductions of rights." -- Justice Scalia 1998

FUD, on a serious note, most women are not the "gun nuts" that guys can be. Most women are not inclined to learn the particulars of a semi-auto. The simplicity of the revo appeals to them. Woman, "OK, so I've got the operation of this revolver down...all I have to do is pull the trigger. Now let's go shopping." Men love gadgets, and semis appeal to them more. Men are more concerned with the function than actual employment. Women could care less about function.

You guys are getting me into trouble at work. Here I am laughing my a$$ off and my co-workers want in on the fun. But I'm not letting them.

I am a semi-auto girl. I don't take it as a Freudian thing. I am equally comfy with a revolver as with a semi auto, but I chose a semi-auto as my primary carry because a small 5'3" 103 pound girl needs look as aggressive and scary as she can when a big burly rapist approaches her. And looking down a very big hole for a bore is scary. (And please, men, don't take THAT anatomically.) My Kahr is also reliable, fits very well in my hand and I can conceal it on my person well.

I believe alot of men have stereotyped women as the revolver-in-the-purse type who shakes in absolute fear when the big bad guy approaches, and he ends up taking the gun right out of her hand. That's sad.

And I have thought about function. My Kahr functions very well. Having no manual safety does not phase me. If I am tackled by a bad guy and pinned on the ground, unable to obtain my gun or a proper grip, (see C.R. Sam's comments), I can either go for the 4" blade my AFCK provides, which is better for close-quarters anyways, or my "booger picker", the little NAA .22mag mini revolver that I can hide just about anywhere. And I'm not telling you where.

Lavan, I ain't even gonna go there, that was tasteless.

I carry a semi-auto because I PREFER them, nothin' Freudian about it. I like the "complexity" of a SA. I also carry a snubby .38, but can shoot straighter w/ my Sig. I for one get tired of seeing women depicted w/ only revolvers. Heck I AM a gun-nut, & own quite a few guns of all sorts, maybe I'm one of the few women who is a gadget-geek.

does the old 3, 5 3,5 joke come into play here?
(if you dont know the joke dont ask here, email me.)

it might also be kinda of a sexist thing, ya know some guys see revolvers as not being manly versus a big auto loader.

Women I have taken to the range prefer autoloaders, especially single action or Glock-type. Revolvers and DAO pistols require larger hands for comfortable shooting...
