Post your best deals on revolvers.....great wheel guns at a low price.

I am not sure about Rossi, but I held a 6-shot .357 lat week, and it felt pretty darn good. And for $145, it sounded better.

Have no revolvers and am in the market, but would like some sugesstions.
Thanks.

If you just want to try out a revolver and at the same time get a useful gun that will last a lifetime, get a used Model 10 S&W .38 in any barrel length. This is the gun that has set the standard for all other revolvers. You can pick up a gun in good mechanical condition for $200 or less.

In the last 2 years I bought two Model 10's. One was a 10-5 with the 4" tapered barrel. The price was $157 in very nice shape. The other was a 10-9with a two inch barrel and that cost $195.

+1 to Dot_mdb

Also check for used Colts and Rugers; they will perhaps be less likely to find in the under-$200 range, but not impossible. A good used Smith, Colt, or Ruger would fill the bill.

Price is relative. I define "deal" as a price that I can buy a gun and immediately sell it for more if I choose. The rest are just good prices. I would look at 90%+ condition Colts and Smiths for my deals.

I agree. A S&W M&P/M10 in 4", 38 Special and the S&W M64 in stainless are great revolvers. I prefer the M10-7 4", pencil barrel and square butt myself. I also have a M10-11 2" round butt that is an outstanding CCW snub. I have a M15 too. It is the M10 perfected with adjustable sights, target options and a great factory set action in 4" square butt.

If all you want is a gun to pull out twice a year and shoot a box of ammo, then the off brands will do. However, know that once you buy a off brand, your pretty much stuck with it for life or you'll need to give it away for 25 cents on the dollar. Been there done that. If you want real value ( vs lowest possable price) get a used S&W mod 10,15, 13,64,65 67, 19, etc. Used smiths can be had for $200 or less if your patient. They are arguably built better to start , hold their value better and are 10x easier to fit holsters, grips, speedloaders etc.

I own both a Model 10 and 67.
The model 67 is great for target shooting because of the adjustable sights.
My model 10 comes from the 1940's and is still a great shooter.
They are hard to beat.

Best Deal:
NIB Ruger GP100 6" stainless steel $299.00 at a gun show :D :D

For a gun your not going to shoot a lot a Rossi or Taurus is fine. If you plan to shoot on a regular basis I would look for a S&W or Ruger

Bought 4 mod 64's a little while back(less than a year) for $149 each. Best deal I ever got. Police range guns. They all polished up beautifully except the one I had bead blasted. Made it look like new. All shoot better than I can. My favorite game is shooting golf balls. Money well invested.

The M10 has been around a long time and is still made today great revolver. But if you should run across a Ruger Security six I wouldn't turn it down can be found at a good price also.:)

My best deals on revolvers so far are a like new M37 for $170, and a 686+ Mountain Gun for $280.

For a first revolver get a S&W M15. It just doesn't get any better than a M15.

Look at that neglected bottom rack at the local gunstore and you're likely to find some great deals. I got a S&W Model 28-2 "Highway Patrolman" for $250 and my dad got an absolutely perfect 4" Model 29-2 for $430. My dad once got a very lightly used Ruger Police Service Six for $200. All the mall ninjas ignoring revolvers isn't necessarily such a bad thing afterall.

I am a really big Smith and Wesson fan (that Model 28 deal sounds great i love the Model 28.)
That being said "for the money" the Rossi or Taurus are good deals I have had good luck with those.

Taurus 85 CH (Concealed Hammer) from a little old lady (not kidding). Too much kick for her. Elbow grease got this pistol back to looking like that after being in hibernation since 1989. She however, would NOT part with her Beretta 86 with tilt barrel in .380. She LOVED that gun. So did I.

So for someone looking for an economical first revolver, is a Taurus out of the questions? No one's mentioned Taurus... I know you can't put 10,000 .454's though one, but how about us average joes?

I will speak for Taurus !

I have one of their 605 snubs in 357 stainless. Great gun. Lots of my friends have 85's, and they like them as well. The only issue was a weak hammer spring, which my dealer switched out for free. I have about 1000 rnds thru it, and the only other problem I ever had was "poor ammo". I'm thinking about a model 85ul to knock off some of the weight for ccw, but right now it's my number one carry piece. Rossi also makes some inexpensive snubs. They are now produced by taurus at their factory. Kymasabe has one, and he seems to like it. If I come across a good buy on a smith, I will probably pick it up, but around here they want to sell them for the price of new ones.

Taurus is OK

I've got a 605 with the bobbed hammer. It's not my favorite gun by far, but it serves it's intended purpose just fine.
