Revolver selection assist....

OK, I'm a semi auto dude who just got a 642 as a BUG and it would now appear I've contracted an early case of the revolver bug.

I'd appreciate suggestions to meet these requirements for a carry/IDPA piece:

* .357/.38 SP +P.
* 6 shot.
* Fixed sights (like the red insert in the M66 but don't like the adj. rear).
* 3" barrel (or close)...will consider 4" if all other requirements are met.
* All steel and/or SS, no scandium or aluminum.
* S&W or Ruger.
* Takes a full moon clip.
* New or used in near new condition.
* Finish is not a high priority, but probably looking at SS for carry.
* Hammer - external (and probably bobbed later) or shrouded.

Are any models coming set up for moon clips (and have moon clips) out of the box?

Thanks. Nice to have access to folks with knowlege and experience.

If you could find one a Ruger Speed Six in 9mm

If not find a recent production S&W 646
4" barrel
40 S&W full moonclips
or find a 13 3" and have it moonclipped.

I believe the S&W custom shop is/was turning out a mod 627+ in .357 with moon clips but I don't know about the shorter barrel . Check gunbroker.com, I think they are regulars there. Moon clips are usaully aftermarket on a.38/.357 as it is a rimed cartridge. Lots of guys get it done to 686's aftr the fact .The S&W 610 and 625 chamber the .40 S&W and .45 ACP respectively and are off the shelf. The 4" 625 is VERY popular in IDPA. My 4" 625 is one of the sweetest shooting and fastest loading revolvers I own.

Have to say I LOVe those moon clips. ( I've got a 3" Ruger Sp 101 in 9mm that uses them too. Very nice BUG.)

Fixed sights, moonclips, IDPA legal... Pretty difficult. You'll have to track down one of the old limited run 681s. Not sure if any were made ready for moonclips and without ports. Ports and aftermarket moonclip conversions are illegal in IDPA.

610 or 625 perhaps?

I don't know about the moonclip thing, but these two revolvers might work for you.
Good Luck.
