Revolver or Semi-auto..which one first?

When you were first introduced to shooting, were you started on a revolver or a semi-auto pistol...or with a long gun?
Have you stayed with that type of weapon or did you switch?
Just curious. :D: :D:

My progression:
YOUTH
BB-gun
Pellet gun
.22 rifle
Shotgun

ADULT (arguably)
More shotguns
More rifles
Handguns (all semi-auto--though I'm developing an interest in a big-bore revolver for hunting)

Autos have captured my fancy but I feel a pull to revolvers. I tried wheelguns about six months ago and got turned off with the double action mode, but lately a revolver's simplicity and "real gun" look is appealing to me again.
I read another TFL post earlier this evening where the guy said its taken years for him to settle in to what he likes, so perhaps my shifting back and forth between the two is more or less normal.

Greetings,

Autos first, 2x1911, 2x.22, 3x.380, 9mm, but sooner or later I had to buy the 2" .357 J frame I also own now. No collection is complete without a gun that always goes bang. Negotiating a trade now for a used 4" .44 Mag. Hope it goes through.

Regards,

Ledbetter

I recommend a long gun first, then revolver, then auto...especially if it is for a child or someone not familliar with guns.

Pre-teen: .22 bolt action rifle and a .22 Benjamin pellet pistol. I was first allowed to fire the pellet pistol unsupervised, and when my Dad was satisfied with my safe handling (unknown to me at the time, he was observing without my knowledge - I didn't find that out until YEARS later) I was allowed use of the rifle.

Teen: .22 bolt action rifle, pump .22 rifle, 20 ga. shotgun, 8mm Mauser, Universal M-1 carbine and various pneumatics (Sheridan, Crosman 760, etc.)

Adult: Much more. :) Including handguns. Couldn't have those in my formative years as my parents wouldn't allow them in the house.

BB rifle
pellet rifle (5mm Sheridan - 40 yrs. later it still is fun to shoot!)
.22 rifle
.410 single shot
20 ga. pump (still goin' after 38 yrs, too!)
This gets me to 12 years old ...
got to shoot Dad's .38 long colt revolver at this point, with Brother's .44 Blackhawk a few years later ..
first handgun at age 22 - .357 Security Six
then Mark I, then .....
I lost track - a buncha long and short guns, short guns 'bout 50/50 on wheelguns and semi's, with the odd front-stuffer thrown in.
Looking forward to a bunch more!

My first handgun, bought many years ago, was a Colt Lawman Mk III (.357; two-inch barrel). I wanted a good home defense handgun and this was what I was advised to buy. Well, I still have it and enjoy shooting it. Only fairly recently did I make the move to semi-autos (two Glocks, 30 and 26). I love the Glocks but--and this could be because I began with a revolver--there is something about the comparative simplicity and reliability of a good revolver that is still very compelling. I am thinking that my next handgun should maybe be a larger-frame revolver with at least a four-inch barrel (Ruger?). Might be more "politically correct" too the way the winds seem to be blowing. On the other hand maybe it's time to enter the cathedral of the 1911...?

Greetings All,

Upon completion of the 5th grade I received a
Winchester Model 67A .22 caliber bolt-action,
single shot rifle. :)

After I got married and started buying my own, my first handgun purchase was a Smith
& Wesson Model 57 .41Magnum with 4" barrel;
complete with all accessories and packed in
the wooden mahogany box. After the first purchase, they started coming in; in droves.
Wish I had retained all firearms that have passed through my hands!!! :D

Best Wishes,

When I was a kid the only guns in the house were Dad's .270 and 12 gauge on a wall rack in their bedroom. Never have shot either of them! Started with BB guns. Then Boy Scouts introduced me to the .22 rifle. I bought a bolt action .22 rifle for myself. that was my start. Got good with that BB gun. I could shoot yellow jackets off of fallen pears with the BB gun at my hip.

20 years passed since then. Now I'm interested in guns again. Now have added the very versatile Rem. 870, a 9mm handgun, a 10/22, a BB/Pellet gun (for the children!), and lastly a 22/45 to my humble collection.

Preferance is auto's. Still have never even shot a revolver. Have interests in .357, and something .45 auto. I'm al1so interested in talking Dad out of that .270!

My first was a hand me down .22 Winchester rifle. My second was a British Enfield .303
My first handgun was a Ruger New Model Blackhawk .357
And over the the years it has just progressed ;)
