Who makes a good 44 revolver loading stand?
I've looked at the one that cabelas sells but the reviews say its junk.

Dixie gun works has a couple but the ram looks awful short to my eye.

I need something thats sturdy or can be made sturdy with simple modifications. I'd be using it for my usual plinking and not CAS, I just want to be able to load off the gun and save the wear and tear on the built in loading rams.

Dad Gummit!!!

Smokin Joe,

You know darned well that I do flips every time I see those photos.

And now I have pulled a muscle in my back.

I am sending you the bill from the "saw bones"!

Smokin Joe,
That is a cool design...load three at once, I would never have thought of that! I might put one of those together just to freak my shootin buddies out.

Deerslayer,
That one looks like it would hold up to just about anything you could throw at it, I looked at the price and it brought tears to MY eyes...but for me the pain usually stops just after I've paid the credit card bill! :p

actually, I think the ebay guy is actually powder inc...using the same pics and description and both are in clarksville, AR.
Thanks Tom, makes me feel better about the price on ebay. :)

I bought the one from Powder inc/Ebay.
It does a great job and came with two center pieces so I could do both Colt and Remmies! I hadn't expected that when I ordered it.

A helpful tip: get a strong magnet and and put it on the press then just stick your allen wrench and extra center on the magnet and you won't likely loose them.

I mounted mine on a 3/4 inch thick wood cutting board, wife hasn't even missed it yet. I screwed a 35 mm film can to the corner and keep the spare center& Allen wrench in it.

I was thinking about almost the same thing last night...not with the cutting board though...there are some things I know I can't get away with messing with :p

But I was thinking about some 3/4 ply to mount the loading stand. I'll have to get the dimensions of the stand after it gets here, but maybe a piece of ply thats 15" X 20", film canister screwed to one corner to keep up with the accessories. I might put a small table together with some fold up legs on it and dovetail the loading stand board onto it so that its easily removeable...depends on the weather and how much spare time I'm going to have in the evenings after work. If I build it, I'll post pictures of the finished project...might be a week or longer before I can get to it. It's sopping wet here from all the rain and we may have snow coming in tonight.

Loading Stand

I shoot 36 Navies for CAS and I just bought a loader. My question is do you gents think disassembling the pistols every time to reload would put more wear on them than just using a loading stand that you don't disasemble the the pistols. Just a thought is all. Gus

I have Remington NMA clones so the cylinder is easily removed without having to take the revolver down to parts, no doubt some of the colt guys will jump in here since they are much more qualified than me to answer that one.

This is a very good question Gus, As my whole reason for buy a cylinder loader is for the open top Colts. I was thinking not using the rammer on the pistol would be less wear on them. But as you point out disassembling them every time you load a cylinder might be another ball of wax. I too will await the open top experts opinion on this.

I made one a couple of years ago, it works great but you are using the guns loading lever, I like my cylinder loader I think it saves wear and tear on the gun.
