Revolver in a sock?

I've read of people taking their freshly shot revolver, wrapping it in Ballistol-soaked rags or newspapers and throwing it in their trunk for the drive home where they clean it right away. That makes sense for very short term storage.

Once it's clean, what do ya'll use to store it in?

Are gun socks any good? What about gun rugs?

I only have one gun (a Brass Remmy 58). I can't afford a gun safe yet. I'm looking for storage options that'll keep it clean and protected - at a reasonable cost.

Gun rug if I have to but I prefer mine in the open in a rack or laying on top of the gun rug. Only one I keep in a rug is the one by my bed.

I'm fortunate that I have plenty of room in an area that is not affected by smells. My guns lay in the open air until shoot time. I then put them in light socks to get them to the range undamaged by the trunk of the car.
My opinion is that if you do put them in "gun cases" ie zippered types, I would leave the zippers open so that some air can circulate.
I've seen a few that have drawn moisture inside of zippered cases and rusted.

I store mine, loaded, in the drawer, that way they are easy to get to.
I am in the humid NC mountains, no problem with rust.
