Revolver ID Quiz

So I had some downtime today and I thought I'd put you all to the test. I took 20 images of revolvers and turned them into silhouettes. I thought it would be pretty easy when I was putting this together, but eliminating the details with the silhouette makes it pretty hard. It's a general mix of revolvers, most are common, a couple pretty old, a couple relatively new. What makes it tougher is that I scaled them all to the same length, so you can compare sizes to make your decisions.

I'll let people guess for a day or two, then I'll post the answer key, hopefully it will be on second page of the thread for people who come in the future.

Good luck!

EDIT: THE ANSWER KEY IS IN POST #16

Just to make this more fun. If anyone gets all of them right, I'll send them a little prize, maybe a speedloader or speed strips or something.

2 is a GP100

4 SAA or clone

5 S&W snub, not enough to go on

6 is a Judge

7 is a Charter undercover (or another of Charter's snubs)

8 is a Taurus View, may I never see one in the flesh. (If that were a person, it would be riding an electric wheelchair.)

9 is an LCR

10, I think, is a S&W Schofield or replica

11, a Dan Wesson?

13 is a Taurus snub, an 85 or 605

14 is probably an SP101

15 is a Nagant revolver

16 is some old S&W, not enough to go on.

17, ruger Blackhawk

18, S&W Model 13 or similar, or possibly an older equivalent Taurus.

19 I'm guessing is a Korth

Pretty much what was listed by Lee

But
#1 is a Taurus 444 UL or other N frame Taurus
#3 is a Taurus 66 or a S&W 66
#5 S&W 642
#12 is a Ruger Redhawk
#16 is a S&W "J" frame model 36
#20 is a S&W 686

Wow. You folks are good! But not perfect, four of the revolvers have not been guessed correctly by anyone yet.

I'm not counting "old Smith and Wesson," "J-frame" or guesses like that. If it's mainly identified by a model number, I want the actual model number. Obviously, some S&W models vary only by the material they are made of and you won't be able to tell by the image if it's a stainless or blued gun, but I won't count it unless you get the actual number right. My game, my rules, and introduces a bit of chance, lol. I would guess the most common or prolific version in most cases.

The standings so far!!

Lee N. - 13/20
Buckeye - 2/20

Really though, how good is Lee N. 13 of his 16 answers were correct. I answered four extra questions, and only have one more correct answer.

Good game ckpj

18)Smith model 27

The real trouble with this, for me, is that there are some guns with identical silhouettes. The guess above is wrong, The silhouette of the Model 27 would show the adjustable sights. Same exact one as #3,

Is #3 a 29? or a 27? or a 57? Can't tell from the outline only.
Same for the Colt SAA. Could be Colt, could be Ruger New Vaquero, or a Colt clone.

#18? Any of the heavy barrel fix sight K frame S&W...etc.

Some of them do have distinct, easily identifiable silhouettes, but some of the ones you picked are not.

OK, my best guesses.

#1 S&W X-Frame either M500 or 460
#2 Ruger GP100
#3 S&W Model 27 or 28
#4 Colt SAA or clone
#5 S&W Centennial of some sort (M40, 42, 642, 442, 640, or 340)
#6 Taurus Judge
#7 Charter Arms Undercover
#8 Taurus View
#9 Ruger LCR
#10 S&W Schofield or replica thereof
#11 Dan Wesson 715
#12 Ruger Redhawk
#13 Small Frame Taurus, most likely either M85 or 605
#14 Ruger SP101
#15 Nagant M1895
#16 S&W Chief's Special (possibly M36, M37, or older M60)
#17 Ruger Blackhawk
#18 S&W M&P with heavy barrel and target grips (possibly M10, 13, 64, or 65)
#19 Korth Combat
#20 S&W Distinguished Combat Magnum (either M586 or 686)

1 Smith X frame
2 GP100
3 Smith N frame
4 SAA
5 Smith centenial
6 Judge
7 Charter Arms
8 Rohm
9 LCR
10 Schofield
11 Dan Wesson
12 Redhawk
13 Taurus small frame 85?
14 SP101
15 Nagant
16 Smith Chief's special M60?
17 Blackhawk
18 Smith K frame fixed sight heavy barrel
19 Korth
20 Smith L frame

Now that I looked at others answers I guess 8 is a View

This was fun! I think Webley was the first not to have any incorrect answers, though he was general with a few of the models. If I counted off because you named an identical model, then just take solace in the fact, you were right.

Since no one technically met all of my impossible rules, I can do a drawing a prize. Let me know what you guys think.

Here's the answer key!

1) Smith and Wesson 500
2) Ruger GP100
3) Smith and Wesson Model 29
4) Colt Single Action Army
5) Smith and Wesson Model 642
6) Taurus Judge
7) Charter Arms Undercover
8) Taurus 85VTA “View”
9) Ruger LCR
10) Smith and Wesson Schofield Model 3
11) Dan Wesson 715
12) Ruger Redhawk
13) Taurus Model 85
14) Ruger SP101
15) Nagant M1895
16) Smith and Wesson Model 36
17) Ruger Blackhawk
18) Smith and Wesson Model 10
19) Korth Revolver
20) Smith and Wesson Model 686

That's a bit harsh. Take #3, the S&W 29. Or 629. Or 25. Or 27. Or 28. Or 24 or, well you get the idea.
