Revolver for CCW?

I would like to know if a revolver is a safe alternative for a carry weapon. I have a police positive special that I could use right now and might in a couple of months purchase a new revolver. Any input would be much appreciated. I also would like to know what revolvers would be affordable to use.
Thanks a lot.

Early on I carried (concealed) a Smith M&P 4". Later added a Smith Model 36.

Also carry a 2½" Model 19 a lot and sometimes a 27 and/or 29.
And assorted other wheels on occasion.

If I was supposed to carry a 1911, I did so but also had a revolver.

Wheelguns. Safe, simple and don't know the meaning of limp wrist or downside up.

A "safe" alternative?

As opposed to what?

A running chainsaw? ;)

I've carried a revolver on and off for nearly 20 years.

The last 8 years, about 95% of the time I carry, it's a revolver. I really don't expect that to change anytime soon, and I'd be surprised if it ever changes.

Yes, I carry a semi-auto at times, but not very often.

Back when I used to work at a grocery store I used to carry 3 S&W model 38 Bodyguard when working at night. I had one on each side in a IWB holsters and one in the back pocket or ankle holster. I was the only person in the store with a CCW so I was allowed to carry at work... well, actually they didn't "allow" me carry they just didn't tell me not to carry.

I figured if there was any trouble I could arm 2 other guys in the store.

Welcome to TFL Texas1848!

I own four semi-autos, and three revolvers. I carry revolvers about 90% of the time, and my semi-autos 10% of the time. I know that I am a revolver man and probably always will be. ;)

My favorite concealed carry revolver of all time is the S/W 640 with Spegel boot grips. The lack of hammer looks kind of funny at first but really makes carry and draw easier and I'm convinced the lack of singleaction shot ability is no disadvantage in this type role.

I am just waiting for my new holster to get here, and then the Para P14 will be demoted to the bottom of my carry rotation. I will start carrying my Model 57 .41mag as primary, and when I just need to go to the mailbox, or run to the store my Model 37 airweight will go into my pocket.

So much that can't go wrong with a revolver that can with a semi.

Airweights are really light and confortable, but are a handfull for a .357 magnum as far as recoil goes.
If you get a j frame, get a steel one, or at least an airweight 38 spl., not the .357, unless you can deal with a lot of recoil.
I limit my choices to 20 oz, and no lighter in 357, so I can practice a box of ammo at a time.
Yes, I know you can shoot .38 out of a .357, but it's just more weight to cart around, for something you'll (hopefully) never use.
I don't even own a 'worst case scenario' gun.
I have a few others that are within reach maybe 14-15 hours a day, and in the car.

Pardun m,y speeling, but I'n a little tired.

Wheelguns are very viable options for a CC gun. I have a Ruger SP101 which I love carrying, have been carrying it more than my Glock 19. I also have a Ruger KGP-141 which I carry in the cooler and winter months when I can wear an un-tucked button down shirt or pull over sweatshirt.

I usually carry a Smith & Wesson 640 loaded with 110 or 125 grain JHP Magnums. Occasionally I carry a semi-auto, but I prefer revolvers.

I prefer Government models for carry, and when it gets hot I like an officers model, but have recently been given a Smith model 60 and have been having a ball with it!

Revolvers do have that habit of going ''bang'' when you pull the trigger. Not so semi-auto pistols. Of course if you are attacked by a horde of assailants and you have a high capacity pistol, to misquote ''Maximus''....You are already dead.

My everyday lives-in-my-purse gun is a 296Ti.

On my belt, you can occasionally find a 640, 629 or PC-13.

I consider them safe to carry.

Tamara says, "My everyday lives-in-my-purse gun is a 296Ti."

Yes, I would HIDE that gun also. Talk about being ashamed of ugly family members.

Tamara, GREAT photo. It's just Hollywood glamor photography. We know they don't look that good in real life. You got the angles and lighting just right. It is a great photo.

Those ARE ugly but effective. I often carry a 3" model 36. Good
revolver for concealing.

Sometimes I carry a 4513TSW--good too.

"Glamour Gun Shots" Sorry, couldnt resist. I have to agree...Tamara has some very nice pics of some very nice guns.
I carry an SP101 as my always gun. I fell in love with it...especially after it was massaged by a good smith.
Shoot well

As my friend Blue Duck 357 has stated his choice of carry
revolver's; mine just so happens to be my vintage (79-80)
Smith & Wesson model 60, "Chief's Special". It was the
very first all stainless steel design, making it my favorite
of all time!

Best Wishes,
