Revolver cylinder spacing

Any of you fellows remember the industry standard for the spacing (min and max) front of cyclinder to the forcing cone. I believe the max is around .008" but I could be wrong. Come across a gun with .020 spacing-bet that would spit like heck. All responses are appreciated. Thanks :)

I don't know the spec range, but .004-.008 is about right. Less than that will result in the cylinder binding if it gets hot; more will give the result you have. A good figure is .006. Yes, .020 is excessive; if that revolver is good quality it needs a trip to a good gunsmith or the factory. If (more likely) it is "junque", it probably needs a trip to a gun turn-in program where you can get $100 for it from the suckers.

I look for bout .004 to .006. Won't turn down an otherwise good deal that ranges anywhere from .002 to .008.

I don't think I have ever seen as much as .020. You may have a record gap.

If really good gun otherwise, could have barrel turned, set in deeper and cone fitted to get proper gap. Pricey and easy to screw up.

Takes a good smith to get the sights to line up at proper torque and do the cone right.

The gun is a Clerke .32 S/w and a real piece of junk. I'm handling the deal for a guy at auction, I researched the gun and it was made in the 70's. The double action trigger pull is monstrous. Oh well as I said before it will make a good sinker for fishing.

Bad gun

Sam: It cost the guy $42. Some times I wonder about some people. Heck somewhere during my research a guy was selling them for $115 ! Go figure
:)

I stand by my recommendation as to what to do with it if it is a cheap gun, which it is. Probably one of the worst, they even made the German RG's look goo.... well maybe not so bad.

Here's a use

Since it is registered - If confiscation ever comes knocking at your door, you can hand it over to show that you are doing your best to comply with the law in good faith... I don't keep records of sold guns for all that long myself and really would have no other way of proving that I'm playing along.
