Revolver competition?

What types of competition are open to revolver shooters?
It seems like USPSA and IDPA are both simply Smith and Wesson advertisements in disguise, so what else is out there?

What revolver competitions are open? And I do mean open. Rossi, Taurus, S&W, Colt, Ruger, what have you.

Which revolver games can be fun and avoid the politics/brand wars?

If I'm not mistaken, you can shoot IDPA or ICORE with any revolver you choose to shoot. I don't know many who shoot a Colt, Rossi or Taurus, but there are some who shoot Ruger DA revolvers.

Pick your gun and go have fun.

None of the venues have brand specific rules. Well, maybe a couple are biased towards Ruger as they have "six shot only" and "no mooncllip" rules that exclude some very common and popular S&W and Taurus revolvers.

Even the International Confederation of Revolver Enthusiasts do not specify brand though S&W is outrageously supportive and most of the competitors favor S&W. I have seen one shooter with a Ruger and at least one with a custom built .32 HR magnum 10 shot.

S&W provides sponsorship money for competitive events, and in return they get advertising. It is that simple. They have no ties to the management of IDPA or USPSA other than advertising money. You can shoot ANY safe revolver in USPSA as long as it is 38 cal or larger and has a barrel shorter than 8.5", pretty liberal rules. IDPA has more restrictive rules on barrel length but NOTHING that limits by brand name.

No one will give you any slack about the brand of gun you are shooting at an IDPA or USPSA match, well I suppose there might be one or two jerks out there that might but it is VERY unlikely. The matches are open to everyone to shoot, just load up your gear and get out there, the people there will make you feel welcome.

I might not be 110% correct in the exact figures for barrel length and things like that but there is no brand restriction AT ALL!!!!!!

Groovy.

Thanks guys.
I got very confused by the USPSA/IPSC rule book "accepted list" on their web page. I guess I read too much into it. :o
I own plenty of revolvers of various makes and enjoy shooting them. I have S&W, but I have Rossi and Astra, too. I like the idea of finding the potential in all of them.
I'm really out to shoot for fun, not so much the competition, not even to win. Just to enjoy and learn a little bit.
Thanks guys, and sorry about the mix up. Hope I didn't offend any shooters of any sports :o

If we were offended we wouldn't want you in the sport and wouldn't share information. ;) Welcome.

I do not do serious competition, either. I think the IDPA rules against more than 6 shooters and moonclips are archaic, but would compete with moonclips and not care about being able to hold an 'official' position in the results. For me it is the activity that matters.
