Revolver cleaning - pocket carry.

I've been pocket carrying my Ruger LCR for some time now, and I find when I clean it, the only area that seems to leave any dirt on the patches is the barrel. All the cylinder chambers come out squeaky clean. Do I need to bother with the cylinder when I clean it, or should I save the time and just clean the barrel? I'm only referring to pocket carry, not after shooting it. I'm thinking common sense would say it couldn't hurt to just go ahead and clean the cylinder anyway.

I can't begin to tell you how to clean your gun. It's a matter of individual choice. I for one, do a complete exterior cleaning once a week. Probably overkill, but that is the way I was trained.
Every 60 days, the grips and sideplate come off my 642, and it gets the full treatment. Better safe than sorry.

If you are pocket carrying an un-fired pistol and you clean it and the patches come out dirty was it really thoroughly cleaned to start with?
I 've cleaned some guns that appeared to be clean and later ran a patch thru them and it came out dirty. The previous cleaning left some of the cleaning agent in the barrel and it continued to work.
As far as cleaning the cylinders the same time you clean the barrel why not do it? Cleaning it is cleaning it. There's no reason not to.

I am amazed at the lint and small bits of dirt and sweat related nastys come off the one I IWB carry daily. Guns get dirty, in my holster, in your pocket, sweat, rain, humidity, etc. I say clean it. Even if you aren't finding a great deal of dirt, knowing it has been gone through and lubricated is reason enough.
Now that I think of it, we have all seen the mud and torture test. I want to go stuff mine with dryer lint and see what happens. :) cleaning with compressed air works wonders.

All of my carry guns, even carried IWB, collect dust and dirt in the barrel somehow after only a week or two of carrying, and no I don't oil my barrel. Since I use a combination of oil and grease in all my guns, I clean and re-lubricate my carry guns at least once a month, these are semi autos though.
