Revolver back - Wolff Springs & Hiviz sight

Well, I got my 686P back from the gunsmith - he put in a Wolff Spring Kit (type 2 reduced power, power rib mainspring, and 14lb rebound spring), as well as a Hi-Viz fiber optic front sight.

The springs made an enormous difference in the trigger pull - it not only feels much lighter, it also feels smoother.

The fiber front sight is a little dissappointing. While it is very bright in strong light, it dims quickly and doesn't do much of anything in a dimly lit room. It's not that long, so perhaps that's the reason - not a lot of light being collected.

Next weekend I will take a one day training course that will require us to fire 400 rounds. I am glad the trigger is lighter now, or I could see a major trigger finger problem by end of the day. 400 rounds should give a pretty good idea if the ignition reliability has been compromised at all by the lighter springs. I will let you guys know what the result is ;-).

I bought a revolver from someone who had the hi-viz front sight installed on it and at the time he told me you could easily change out the colors and that there was a night site tube available.

I just ran a search and found hi-viz with no problem but no night site tubes available or offered by them or anyone else.

I like the hi-viz but I agree that it does go dim in low light situations where I would rather have it brighter.

My gunsmith put the Wolff spring kit in my 686PP and I agree, it lightened the trigger pull quite abit. However, I did experience several FTF rounds. The dimple from the firing pin onto the case was just a small ding. Had him reinstall the factory main spring (in the grip handle) and that appears to have solved the FTF problem. It's still very smooth and light.
