Reviews Please: Taurus 627 Tracker

I saw a Taurus 627 (Tracker), 4", SS, Ported, 7-shot 357-Mag, (about 95%) for $285 out the door.

What do you all think about this gun .... I have never shot one of these before. (I own several .357's but they are all Smith's, with the exception of my GP-100.)

Guess I'm just looking for something "different".

Thanks in advance for your reviews.

I had one; it was a great gun. The trigger was OK, not quite up to S&W standards, but still pretty good. The only reason I got rid of it, is that I have been moving to smaller guns that I can carry. Oh, and those ports will cause your face to sting with hot loads :)

My wife loves it, I find the grip to trigger distance is a bit short for my meathooks.

Very nice trigger (perhaps we got lucky), the only cheesy part on it is the plastic tape orange insert on the front site. That'll melt out real soon after a few cleaning.

Durability is excellent (so far). Probably fired 300rds of pretty hot 357's out of it, and about 2000rds of +P level (loaded in 357 brass).

My wife even shoots it in local IDPA matches (no prise matches, local folks don't care that it's ported..and 7-shot ;-)

I have 2 Trackers a 6" 357 and a 4" 45 colt and both are great guns. I do not shoot the 357 much as I shoot a S&W 65 and 13 more cause I carry them. Here is a thread about my 45 colt, http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=139411

My 357 is a great gun but I shoot the others cause I carry them. It is a decent gun but the sticker on the ramp sucks. the trigger is very good but stiff. I want to get wolf springs and some day I want to find some nice looking wood, maybe a gray laminate would look nice with the bead blast finish.

:) I've had my 6 inch .357 Tracker for less than a month, and now I can feel a revolver addiction growing. The ports make some impressive flashes in dim light with hot loads. Shooting .38's is as much fun and just as gentle as shooting my Beretta :D

My experience with a Tracker!

Owned a 4" 627 Tracker for about 6 months. Unlike most of my other experiences with Taurus products the 627 was a good performer. Even took a deer with it although I don't recommend the .357 for hunting. Good shooting:)

I've had one for awhile, got it cause I'd always wanted a ported barrel. Well, it was interesting and worked great, but my interest in IDPA revolver class has pushed me into a Smith 66. I found the 627 fun to shoot, but it is a bit LOUD, due to the ports. I just transferred the 627 to my step-son, he didn't have any pistols at all:eek: , so I had to do something!
As a side note; the trigger on the Taurus was incredible in both SA and DA, buttery smooth. My new Smith is ok, but not as nice as the 627, hopefully it'll improve with use.
