review request para ordinance LDA

My dept is in the process of approving the para ordinance p-18 for us to carry as a duty weapon. I am curious as to anyones experiences with this pistol. Pros and cons? Our dept is limited to 9mm by the law dept. Would this be a good duty weapon and why? We issue Glock 17's but one can carry S&W, Beretta, or Sig. Would you recommend the LDA over those?

I have only limited experience with the LDA, but it appears to be a solid gun. It is my choice for a duty gun if limited to DA/SA options, since my personal daily carry is a 1911 pattern pistol.

The LDA I tried was a single stack 45. Remember to get the bobbed hammer, otherwise you'll have to find a 1911 holster that is designed for a 1911 with hammer down. It was extremely accurate in my hands (within five inches at 25 yards, shooting offhand). The trigger reset is a little tricky as you need to release the trigger to the second click before it resets. Otherwise, trigger pull is the best double action I have ever felt in my life. The safety is a standard 1911 (not extended) that disconnects the trigger when engaged. Don't know about parts compatibility. Reliability seems on par with the major 1911 makers out there.

I think the Para LDA is the answer for those who are trained on the 1911 platform and are limited by departmental policy to carry a DA sidearm.

I've tried the Para LDA in single and double stack forms. I'd also recommend the bobbed hammer as the rep insisted that the hammer be cocked only by the racking of the slide. If that's the case, there's no need to have a hammer that can snag there.

The trigger took some getting used to. It indeed is a light, long, DA. I'm a Sig fan and I prefer the heavier DA pull of the Sig. Otherwise, in single-stack, it felt like a 1911 with the different trigger. The safety is in the right place and the slide can't be cocked unless the grip safety is depressed.

Accuracy was decent, I'm sure it would have shot better if I got more used to the trigger. It's got the firing pin safety for some extra PC and the single stack takes standard 1911 mags. I still prefer the Sig but if you are looking for a 1911 type gun to carry in a PC PD, it's the way to go.

i own a para lda, double stack mag. the gun will shoot off hand about 3" with ball. my functioned flawlessly for 100 rounds and then something happened to make it not fire the first round if i dropped the slide by just pressing the release and letting it go. it took para exactly 24 hours from the time they got it until i had it back, cost nothing, other than sending it in. i'm about 1500 miles from the hop battom pa service center, i thought they did good.
since it's return i have shot about 500 rounds through it with absolutely no problems, nothing at all. everything works just like it ought to.
they did not say what as wrong . they did say they replaced the lda platform and shot it with ball and hollowpoints for function.
i like mine.
