YEP.. JUST like i thought and was suggested by my local gun dealer .. last week i was shooting speer and was having problems with the primers not being struck hard enough ..the firing pin just leaving little dents in the primer instead of nice hard hits ...
so i bought some cheep ammo, remington UMC ... some expensive ammo .. remington high velocity hollow point 180 grain ( my personal favorite ) and some other stuff ... tested ALL 4 brands i brought with me ... NOT ONE PROBLEM ...
i began by first cleaning my walther in every nook and lubeing it up reeeeeal nice like .... then i tried all three loads a little while ago and no problems ...
THEN .. i had 15 rounds of the speer left that was giving me problems ... so i decided to try them out just to get rid of them ..
well ..... 4 OUT OF 15 HAD THE SAME PROBLEM .. I KNEW IT !!!
I KNEW IT WASNT MY BABY !! the d@mbed ammo was at fault ..
PHEW !!!!!!!
also i had a problem with the slide release catching randomly thru out firing the pistol ... so today i decided to look reeeeeal close to my right thumb as i fired each round ...
WELL ... it was MY fault ... I KNEW IT !!
when i was shooting ... my right thumb was raising up and slightly away from the pistol ... thus occasionaly raising the slide release up enough to catch the slide ... PHEW !!! ..
i then proceded to fire a few mags while keeping in mind to hold my thumb down ... NO PROBLEMS after that ...
THANK GOD ... i like my wlather so much, it would have broke my heart to have to trade it in because of problems such as those ... MY DEALER WAS RIGHT THE WHOLE TIME ...
thanks to all who responded to my previous thread about this problem .. ;)

I'm glad to hear you've solved the problem. I have the utmost faith in my P99's. They've never failed me. I'll have to buy some Speer ammo and try it out in mine to see what happens.

I guess it just goes to show you that you should try a variety of ammo to see what works best.

Uzi, I'm also relieved to hear you got that straightened out. I am continually amazed by the clockwork reliability of this gun. So far, it's eaten everything I fed it... Magtech, PMC, Speer, Winchester, and even the 147 Ranger Talons, without a single hiccup.

When you broke down the gun, did you also remove the striker assembly, or did you clean only the frame, barrel and slide? If you did the striker, is there anything I should know ahead of time, before I do it?

I'm glad you got everything straightened out. It kinda makes a fella feel REAL bad when his new (and expensive) pistol has a problem. I forgot...was the ammo that you had the trouble with Speer "Gold Dots? I use Gold Dots a lot and they've never given me any trouble. Of course, I don't own any Walther P99's either. My .40 is a Glock 27. Were they 180gr. hollow points?

CCI makes the hardest primers out there. Federal is the sofest followed closely by Winchester. If you are going to get failures to fire do to light hits it is going to be on ammo using a CCI primer.
