Restoring a Type 99 Arisaka? Help!!!!!!

I have an Arisaka Type 99 rifle brought back from Iwo Jima that I want to have restored and mounted on my wall. Am looking for reputable gunsmiths that specialize in rifle restoration. Also, any information on the history of this rifle and locations of websites, books, etc would be greatly appreciated. Rifle is in pretty good shape; action still works, and only minor pitting, surface rust, etc.

Thanks for any help.

Why dick up a piece of history? Even one that has such documentation as yours? If the weapon is in decent shape leave it as is. Where those old military rifles are concerned, every scratch, dent, ding or mark, tells a story. Just remember that when you're taking 80 grit wet/dry sand paper to the stock. I think more good old military rifles have been ruined by well intending people than not. Just leave it alone, clean it up and keep everything oiled. It will make a nice wall hanger.

ditto.......

Leave it the way it is. A buddy of mine has one that his dad captured. Yes, it look a little beat but the history!! DAROGUE1

Yeah, I'd just leave it as is. If you want a good book on the Jap WW2 rifles, I'd suggest "Japanese Rifles of World War 2" by Duncan O. McCollum. But he's my dad, so of course I'd suggest his book. :)

I would leave it as is. Clean it up if there is rust present but that would be it!
I had one that had been speckled with white paint (guy didn't move it while painting the room). I carefully removed the paint specks and cleaned the rust off so it wouldn't pit and that was it.

If you want a better looking rifle I would either buy a better condition one or see if MILTECH has Arisakas for sale. (I'll buy the one you have.)

Please don't alter a historical item. :D
