Restoring a Remington 514

I have a Remington Model 514 Single Shot Bolt Action that has seen better days. It is a tack driver , but there is some pitting on the barrel and the bluing has faded away in places. The stock has some white spots on it and some imperfections and general stock wear( it's about 65 years old). I've looked at the Birchwood-Casey Complete Stock refinish and gun blue kit for about $25 shipped from amazon. Would this be a good way to restore the rifle? Or would the pitting be too deep? I really like this rifle and enjoy shooting it and I would like to get a scope mounted on it sometime, as I want to hunt with it. Would the kit be too difficult for me to use? If you guys could provide some opinions on the kit and answer these questions, I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Also, there is some rusting/pitting on the bolt handle. How would I remove and restore that?

I had a 514 and found it quite accurate, but I shot it out, using too many Shorts.

For removing rust from metal, I like 000 or 0000 steel wool with oil or Break-Free CLP on it. After removal, degrease the metal to be blued with rubbing alcohol or other degreaser, then apply Brownells Oxpho-Blue or other cold-blue.

After cold blue, apply two or more coats of auto wax and you're good to go.

If you wish to re-finish the stock, use a chemical stripper, then sand and apply several coats of Tru-Oil, lightly sanding and steel wool between coats.
