Nifty!

I have never bought a NEW 870. All were old and more or less used Wingmasters or Police Magnums. One had peach-colored furniture.

All got fixed up and make fine, serviceable shotguns.

Careful, Rem 870 shotguns are like Lays tater chips: can have just one.

Do you have your own blueing tank? I have an old Mauser I've been meaning to polish up. I asked at a local shop and even if I did all the polishing, he wanted 200 bucks to blue it...

Back in the days when I lived in Astoria, OR. there was a gunsmith that would blue it for $15 if the customer did all the before and after bluing. Adjusting for inflation I think it would be around $30 in today's money...

I'm guessing that was Sky

I have a home in Astoria, I live upriver in Longview.

That had to be Sky, he had a shop in the basement of Link's Sporting goods. Sky pulled the plug and retired, must be right at 10 years now. Great guy.

New guy opened up in Warrenton, across from the infamous "Club" he's another great guy. I am still kicking my self for not buying the beautiful black Army 1911 a customer brought in while I was in the shop.

Could have had it for a grand, stupid stupid me! That was only 6-8 years ago.

Yes, that was him. I worked at Honda-Yamaha of Astoria back in the late 80's and I spent a lot of my disposable cash at Sky's Gunsmithing. I saw him at a gun show a couple years after he closed up shop. He has serious back problems and couldn't keep up with the work any more. I'm in the same boat these days but I switched to a line of work I can mostly do on my own...

BTW, he shaved off his beard and until I heard him talk, I wasn't sure it was him...

I kinda miss Astoria but I don't see myself moving again. I'm in Willamina for good...
