Response from Albertsons

A few weeks ago, after attending a Million Misguided Mom March demonstration in Dallas to protest their bliss ninny attempts to disarm law abiding citizens, I sent the following letter to the corporate office of the Albertson's supermarket chain:

October 2, 2000

Albertsons General Office
250 Park Center Blvd.
Boise, ID 83706
ATTN: Customer Service

Ladies and Gentlemen:

I live less than a mile from your store in Murphy, Texas, and my wife and I have shopped there since we bought our house in February of this year. We have been very happy with the quality of goods available, the customer service we have received and the value for our dollars spent. It therefore brings me no pleasure to inform you that I will no longer patronize this or any other Albertsons store, and will urge my friends and family to do the same.

Last night in downtown Dallas I attended a Million Mom March gathering to voice my disagreement with their policies and agenda. This organization and its members are using emotion to overcome common sense for political gain. They would see the law abiding penalized for the actions of law breakers. Behind the dais was a poster listing the sponsors of this misguided organization, and your corporation’s name was prominently displayed. I do not view my Second Amendment rights to be up for debate, especially by the uninformed, and will not support the businesses of those who do. I vote with my dollars, and will no longer be voting for Albertsons.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

******* *. *****

Here is Albertson's response:

Your recent letter to Albertsons General Office has been referred to our department for review and response. We regret that you have made the decision to stop patronizing our stores and urge you to please reconsider.

Albertsons advertises in many forums, including radio, TV, print media, sports events and other events that draw large numbers of potential customers. Unfortunately, there are times when people disagree with the message presented during the radio show, TV show or media event during which Albertson's name appears, such as your objection to Albertson's advertisement at the Million Mom March. We sincerely regret that you were offended by our inclusion there.

Albertsons prides itself on being a good corporate citizen in the neighborhoods where we have stores. We support local schools, churches and other organizations that promote family values. Moreover, our philosophy is to treat all of our customers, vendors and associates, regardless of factors such as race, gender or socioeconomic status, with courtesy, dignity and respect.

You stated that you were pleased with your shopping experiences at Albertsons in the past. Hopefully, you will again look at Albertsons as a good neighbor and return to our stores.

Sincerely,

Laura J. Hamblin
Vice President, Employee Relations
Southern Region

So now the financial support that Albertsons provides to the mmm is just an advertisement. I wonder how much it costs to get your name in big letters at a mmm event.

And they think they're supporting an organization that promotes family values?

Should I respond to their response, or will I just get more PR BS?

Jarhead out.

Basically, they are saying that it's not their fault and you should still be their friend.

While I applaud them for replying, I would ask if they intend to "advertise" at the next KKK rally. The MMM and the KKK really aren't that different and both are deserving of their advertising dollars.

Personally, they won't be getting my business unless I see their signs at the next gun show or supporting pro-gun ventures.

When Reason Fails.....

Send them the address for the Second Amendment Sisters and ask if they'd be willing to support this organization in a similar financial fashion.

Also, ask if there was more than "advertising" support for the MMM. Did they make a cash donation "for the cause?" If so, how much?

Keep us informed of what you hear.

Whitewash job - let the cabbage rot on the shelves. Either they support the Second Amendment or they don't.

Gutless issue-dancers.

I concur with the others that you should try to "pin them down". Your first letter was very well writen and I have no doubt that your next will be equally well writen. That would be reason enough if for no other. I think it helps our cause for people to see that gun owners are articulate, intellgent people. You can bet that if they received a letter of complaint from one of the MMM's it would be more akin to a rant than the polite discourse you presented.
In the mean time I will stop shopping at the local Albertson's here. Until now I had not known of their stance on the issue. Thank you.

Noban's got it right. Corporate BS.

And since I used to write this kind of corporate BS, I can see it, smell it, and hear it from a great distance.

It took me years of acid baths until I felt clean again. :)

Smith & Wesson is dead to me.

If you want a Smith & Wesson, buy USED!

It's just another "form" letter that they send out to everyone that writes about certain issues. It's the same thing that I get from others I have written. Just like with symatic (Norton people). They have a plant here where I live so I went there, in person, to ask about their policies. I didn't "make an appointment" so I was denied access to the "great one". Same with other companies. It's gotten to the point that they (companies) jump onto some type of bandwagon to push thier goods. They figure that if they get the majority to shop there by "supporting" their causes then they will make more money. CEO's are like bore, they will flip flop on an issue in order to get what they want. Now, if this was turned around, they would be supporting us instead of them. Hence why some boycotts work. If they start to lose their bottom line, all of a sudden it's "a quote taken out of context, we actually support this (or that) cause". At least they haven't put up the "no guns" sign in their windows. I now look and read the signs in the windows. Most are the normal/standard signs "No shirt, no shoes, no service", "No animals allowed", etc.. If they have the No guns allowed, I don't go there any longer.

BTW: Did you know that if you go into a store with a No shirt, no shoes, no service sign, in your underwear (with a shirt on and shoes), they have to serve you. But, then again, you have to 'plain it to the officer that is dispatched to the call :D.

**Okay, I'm bored, sue me.

Regarding their response: I could be wrong, but my BS alert is going off. They're feeding you their standard canned response to complaints when they are a SPONSOR of a generally neutral show or event, which happens to contain a person espousing their own view. It is a horse of a completely different color to support financially, a cause which is clearly on one and only one side of a political issue at all times. Not cuttin the mustard. They should definitely pay the price. I will write to them as well.

I guess they would be kind of pissed if they knew that I always carry a loaded .45 Colt semi-auto self defense handgun when I shop at their store in Kingwood, Texas. Thank you for the heads up. I will move my business to the other grocery store near my home. Regards.

Well put their money where their mouth is. Propose they sponsor a real or fictitious pro gun march. See if they bite.
